I started playing this game at 10:30pm and I finished it at 12:30am so its a rather short game but I had fun playing it so thats all that matters. This plays like a hidden object game but its mostly an adventure game. I say mostly because there are a few things that people need you to find and so it becomes like a hidden object game in a sense but there are only 2 of these scenes that I remember so its way more adventure. You are trying to save Queensbury, your beloved town that you just moved to. Since your grandma owns a soup restaurant well more like soup carnival booth lol you are in charge of finding the ingredients needed to make this spirit soup that will put the spirits to rest. Not all that exciting but it moves along well and I like making potions.
There are bonus features in this game, like once you play it, you get to play all the mini games over again and they aren't identical to the ones in the game so thats a nice feature. Even though I liked the game, I didn't really want to play them again. The puzzle you do 3 times to end the curse was pretty hard. In fact I could only get the 3rd one which you'd think would be the hardest based on what characters tell you but the others were mind bending which I loved. The hint button directs you in this game if you are in the room you need to be however if you aren't, it will tell you "There's nothing to do here". This didn't bother me because it didn't have a lot of locations so it wasn't a lot of wandering around not to mention you have a map where it stars the objectives you have. You cannot use the map to jump but that didn't bother me either.
There is only ONE difficulty level and glints do appear if you take too long to do something but they weren't overly intrusive so they didn't bother me. There are no voiceovers but this is an old style game so I didn't expect there to be.
My only criticism is how short it is because it could have taken you to lots of places for the ingredients instead of around in a circle. My other criticism is the lack of tasks because it often felt like there was nothing to do. However, since I have never heard of Twilight Games, I give them kudos for an adventure game that kept my interest and made me want to dig out my large file games to get the real deal.
I recommend this to casual gamers, people new to adventure games and want to challenge themselves and those who like indie games. This is not very mainstream at all.
When I demoed this a couple years ago, I remember thinking it was sooo hard. When I played it now however, I found it to be a sort of a cakewalk although enjoyable. Oh how times change.
The Emperor's son has a mysterious illness. As legendary healer Daiyu, you're called to the palace to save him, but you end up having to save yourself!
I usually love Eipix games. So far, I have given most of them 4 and 5 stars. I usually love the uniqueness, mixed with the great quality of graphics/sound and the new takes on old stories they give us. However, this game fell rather flat for me. The graphics/sounds were amazing as usual. The voiceovers matched the lips and seemed to fit all the characters well. The story line was about healing a young boy and you play the healer so nothing really new there although portrayed well enough. Where this game fell flat for me was the overall theme and game mechanics including what I want to see in "hard mode".
I am usually not to keen on the Eastern theme and I am not sure why. This game initially gripped me in the demo and I got past where the story took place. However, after the demo the game starts to go downhill. It felt like I had played this game FOREVER yet I believe it only took me 3.5 hours to play it. I felt like I didn't care where the story was going after playing it past the demo. I didn't look forward to progressing in the game. I felt there was very little challenge and it started to bore me. However, there is an actual ending in the standard version so thank you devs for that! There is no pressure here to buy the collector's edition.
What I am taking the most stars off for are game difficulties. In today's games, I like the different levels of challenges. I know a lot of people like casual, relaxing gameplay and I am all for that. However, when I choose HARD mode, I do NOT want sparkles on hidden object scenes. I do NOT want overly easy puzzles or tasks. I WANT a challenge or at least some puzzles to stimulate my mind. I play a lot of these games for the puzzles, to keep my mind awake now that I am unable to work and done with school. With no disrespect to anyone, I really felt this game was "dumbed" down. I feel like this happened because its a known fact that Eastern themed games don't usually do well on Big Fish and no one is sure why BUT Eipix chose to do it anyways and to appeal to everybody they made it as easy as they could so all levels could play it. But people like me that want the challenge were left out unfortunately. HARD level, should be NO sparkles, NO help, NO skips/hints, NO black bar tips etc. Since Eipix games usually have all these options for the hard levels, I was surprised at the sloppiness of this game developer for letting that slide and it made the game almost unbearable for me to play because I had absolutely NO challenge whatsoever.
My game mechanic issue was with the Healer's Kit. This function could have been done so much better. That kit could have changed the way I felt about the difficulty in this game had it had a better purpose BUT you pick up something and it automatically tells you "you should put this in your healer's kit". Then you play the same game over and over and over where you need to stop the ball within the green zone and then you get your ingredient. Had this feature been better executed, I would have enjoyed using this kit instead of being completely annoyed by it near the end of the game. Its obvious which items needed to go in the kit because they were surrounded by a red aura yet the game continuing to tell you about using the box was overkill. It would have been exciting to be able to mix or to do potions within that kit as well but there was none of that either.
For people who loved this game and felt the difficulty level was spot on, I do not mean to offend you. I just have played A LOT of hidden object adventure games and this one did not live up to the expectations that this developer has put forward with their other games and I found that very disappointing.
I recommend this game to casual gamers but not to anybody who is looking for a challenge.
First of all, I would like to tell the developers THANK YOU! This is one of the first times I've ever seen a GREAT game be released for mac users before it was released for pc. Kudos to that! Usually us mac users get really junky games when its released to us firsthand. I wanted to make sure I commended this and that I bought the game. Thank you!
I love the characters in this game. It really gives the game something extra that when you get a certain amount of flowers you can change their clothes, walk, armor and other things. These changes would reflect in the game on the next level and I liked having the ability to do this. I found some staffs the big guy held seemed to work faster and some of the different walks the gremlins did made them do things faster as well. This was a nice touch instead of having to build some town or save a princess. It wasn't cheesy or cutesy but necessary to the game to do this.
The gameplay itself starts off on the easy side in terms of getting the red flowers but then gets harder and harder as it progresses. If you do not beat the level in time, you get a bluish flower and do not earn the red one that counts towards buying your gear. I never ran out of time completely after losing the main time, so I don't know if you can still bypass a level if you are all out. There are also developer's times so even though you may get gold in terms of getting the red flower, you can challenge yourself by trying to do their times. I was only able to beat ONE level of developer times and I was able to get all red flowers except for about 6 levels and most of those are the land levels that have the spiders. I found the spiders one of the most challenging things than any other builder TM game that I have played. Not only were they fast but if they reach your treehouse, you lose 30 seconds off your time and those are the levels I did not get red flowers or developers time on. Just because you get a red flower does not mean you got the developer's time.
The second to last level has to be done in a certain way or else you have to start over. I liked the strategy of it BUT it became too frustrating for me to try and figure out how to get a red flower. It took me forever just to figure out how to do the level without having to start over! I recommend NOT starting the mushroom town rebuilding until you have opened all passageways to the coins.
I usually HAVE to get all times and gold medals before being done with a game but I felt like I had done the best I could with this one. I tried to replay the levels I did not get red flowers on but even after many tries, I still could not achieve red ones. I hear there are youtube videos out there and the forum for this game has lots of help from former players.
All in all, I definitely recommend this game especially to TM builder fans who like a good challenge. This game is well made. It had a good story line and voiceovers. IF you don't like spiders, beware because these spiders are big like tarantula size or even bigger on the game. They are purple, yellow and brown so they don't exactly look scary but man are they a pain and the first few levels with them, I felt like they just came out of nowhere because I was not expecting them! I thought this game would be quite short BUT there are sooo many different things to beat in terms of times that it keeps you busy for awhile. Kudos to the developers! I look forward to more :)
I love, love, love, LOVE this offering from BLAM! games!! It was a pleasure to play and it shows just how creative developers can be when they want to. I also love the first one in the series which was about a dog/human half breed type thing. This one was all about the ocean but it was done bright n cheery with no depressing scenes and the voiceovers were superb as were the highly interactive hidden object scenes and the unique puzzles (some of them).
There are a bunch of collectibles including finding 19 sea creatures, 35 MORPHING turtles (didn't catch onto the morphing until way later in the game lol) and 44 seashells that calculate much higher than 44 because you use them to build a proper aquarium in the bonus play and to buy your dolphin some toys. I usually don't care for animal helpers or dressing things up and down but it wasn't out place for the game AND it wasn't done all cutesy either. It was just the right atmosphere especially the dolphin because you get a dolphin whistle throughout the game and YOUR dolphin (which you don't name, thank god) will take you places you can't go without a boat. I thought the extras in this game were awesome.
There are also achievements and I liked that you didn't have to complete all the puzzles without a skip to get them. There were some story based ones but there were others like 10 hidden object scenes with no hints or puzzles. There were way more than 10 puzzles, so even though I skipped one I was still able to get the achievements for doing the puzzles. I was able to do most of the game without hints. The only time I used the strategy guide was for one code as it was hard to see what the symbols were in the diary and also to make sure I was on track with all the collectibles. I made sure to write them down on paper so every time I came back to this game, Id know what I was looking for. The turtles are hard to spot in some locations!
The game ends completely in the main game (standard edition) and there is no need for the bonus so getting the standard edition would do you just fine unless you like all the collectibles, achievements and such, then I really, really recommend you get the CE as this game is outstanding. I don't usually give 5 stars but I loved every minute of this game. The bonus chapter is an epilogue of what happened after the story with the 3 people. The villains in these games always seem to have a change of heart whereas real villains in real life never seem to change their mind so quick. I did like the bonus game in the first Fierce Tales better but this one was good too.
The only negative thing I have to say about this game is that after I played an hour, the game just quit. This sometimes happens so I thought nothing of it until I couldn't get back into the game. I was so scared it wouldn't ever come back to life but I uninstalled it and then reinstalled it and it had my profile saved from where I was when it abruptly quit! (thank you!!) and I was able to play smoothly from there. My game manager never alerts me when there are updates to games (isn't it supposed to??) sooo maybe that was part of it since I didn't realize there was a patch.
Otherwise though, the game played smoothly and I spent 6+ hours enjoying this little gem. BLAM! games you have such great story ideas and great executions of them at that! I am always so amazed at how you can take an old plot line aka love triangle and turn it into something so original that I am left speechless. Thank you for continuing to make such awesome games! Im pretty sure I own everything you have put out! Kudos!
I really enjoy the World Mosaics series but this one is my least favorite. I don't care for the story as I found it quite boring and the images were not all that great. The boards start at 5X5 and go upwards however there are only a few 25X25 boards and I really wish there had been more challenge. I loved the fairy tale one in this series and the 5th one with the world holidays was fabulous but in this one, half the time I couldn't care less what I was making or it didn't look like anything when I finished. It took me forever to play this game and usually Im done with these games within a week because I love them so much. This one just does not live up to its other games. I can't recommend it.
You've arrived in the peaceful resort town of Aurora Peak to investigate some mysterious local crystals. But the devious plot you uncover there could endanger the entire world!
I used to be such a huge fan of VAST games but not so much anymore. Curse of the Opera, one of their very first releases had such an amazing story line and it tied in with the asylum one that followed. I remember being blown away with the story telling. This story however was not very interesting and the tasks were mundane and boring. I had no interest to go back to it and so it took me almost 3 weeks to play it. It starts out great and with some weird discoveries as the title states but as it progresses the story gets dumber and dumber until you have this non-climatic ending and I found myself even siding with the supposed "bad guy" because despite the tremors, I liked her idea! lol
There are interactive hidden object scenes and some pretty simple puzzles. There are 3 levels of difficulty but even though the hardest says no glints or sparkles, the items IN the hidden objects start to sparkle if you take awhile to find the items. Some of the items I had to really look for and I like that BUT then it would glint for whatever reason. I expected expert to include NO sparkles like NOT anywhere for it to be an expert level. You can change difficulties in the options menu as well.
This game felt quite short although it took me forever to play. Thats really where the plot fell apart too. The fun game I started out with started making no sense, back and forth for no reason kind of thing and then the "bad guy" was responsible and it seemed like this person had a great idea even if it was executed wrong, I loved the idea! So I felt like the whole story made no sense and the people I was with and saved were really the evil ones. And then there is no final outcome. I guess its on its own in terms of standard games as it does have an ending of sorts but its not satisfying and I assume there will be a sequel based on the ending but then again VAST might be one of those developers that finishes the real ending in the bonus chapter...Im not sure...
So my advice is, play the demo and totally love it and then leave it at that because the plot goes nowhere, the game gets repetitive and had I really been walking around in this, my dogs would be barking from all the back and forth. Although once you are done with a location, you are done with it for good but all the "busy work" made this game tedious and the great idea I thought it was telling at first just slipped into a mediocre, bland game.
Wherever the writers are who did Curse of the Opera and its follow up Asylum needs to get back to this company pronto and start whipping up some interesting plot lines!
When I first bought this game, I had no idea what the show Castle was. I had never watched it or heard of it. However, I really liked the gameplay so I bought the game because I love murder mysteries. Well, I also decided to watch a few episodes of castle so I would be familiar with the characters before I played this and I totally fell in love with the show and watched all 5 seasons over the summer and am now into season 6...But now that I have watched this show and am such an avid fan, I have a whole other perspective on the game and hindsight being 20/20...I probably would have enjoyed this game more had I not watched the tv show and had no idea what to expect...
The game has 5 chapters and an epilogue of 30 seconds. It is your standard hidden object fare with a little adventure thrown in but plays like an older hidden object game like the james patterson games give or take. There are interactive hidden object scenes and some of the same ol puzzles we usually see that have a pretty easy to medium difficulty to them. I really don't believe a walkthrough is necessary in this game. The map tells you with a badge if there is something to do in the scene and the game is very linear. Clicking the hint button shows you what item you need and where to use it as well.
Since I watched the show, I really couldn't stand the fact this didn't have voiceovers. I could hear kate and castle's voices in my head! And because of that, it drove me nuts that I couldn't hear them. IF I had played this game not knowing a thing about it, I wouldn't have known any differently so I would have overpassed this. However, knowing it changed my perception of it. It did have a good story line that kept you guessing just like the tv show. All the usual characters were there. Alexis, Gramms, kate etc etc It has the woman captain, not the man from the previous seasons. I heard the writer of the show, wrote this game's story especially for this game which was a good story line.
But overall I felt the game was a little slow and once it started to pick up, it was over. Kind of short although because of the slowness it did take me awhile to play it due to having to stop for a few days out of sheer boredom. I love the show and I completely recommend it but does this game live up to the show? NO and had I not watched the show...I would have had no expectations...SO if you watch the show, try it out you may like it! IF you haven't watched the show, you will probably love it so don't watch the show before you play! Its not essential to it and will probably just let you down!
I love steam punk type games and this is definitely in that category. The title confused me a bit going into the game but Glass is a woman who is looking for Dr. Ink who got captured and since Ms. Glass adores him, she goes to look for him and learns she needs to defeat a guy bent on destroying the world with a special machine that creates a series of Earthquakes in a place where there usually aren't any!
The game is by Artifex Mundi and for them I felt like this is very sloppily done. Words are spelled wrong. Freund for Friend but my friend said in Poland they do say that sometimes as these developers are polish but there were other things like Forgein instead of Foreign and engineneer instead of engineer. Those are tiny things but to pay double for a game and have it have basic spelling errors isn't too great especially when this developer is usually so detailed and put together. This game felt almost sloppy or rushed.
There are interactive hidden object scenes and a good amount of puzzles. I found that the puzzles were all pretty doable but there were none that were original in any way. The game has exceptional voice overs though. The woman Ms. Glass has an accent and I found it to be very well done unlike most games that try to do accents. There are about 38 bugs to collect from Dr. Ink's collection. They are mechanical ones like in Fantastic Creations-House of Brass. In fact this game was very much like House of Brass just better done.
The main games ends satisfactorily and there is really no need for the bonus chapter. The main game only took me 2 hours and 45 minutes at most and the bonus game which is the prologue to the story showing how Dr. Ink got himself into trouble in the first place was very short as well. Artifex Mundi releases a lot of games that are just standard editions and Im kind of unsure why they felt the need to make this one a collector's edition based on how short everything was. There are achievements as well but I found the achievement room to be confusing. It was stained glass areas and it was hard to tell if I had gotten the achievement or not since the colors didn't really change after.
I really rate this game around a 3.5 but I think it is worth rounding up because what this game lacks, it makes up for in the story, characters and the overall fun I had playing the game. I liked finding the mechanical bugs and I liked using my brain to figure out where to use items. I will say there are some interesting ways to use the items in this game. A kite for electricity among other things. Always kept me guessing.
The inventory button locks (big issue for me when it doesn't). Puzzles can be reset if you mess up. The strategy guide is done well and you can zoom into the pictures if you need more help. Also, there is a jump map but since you don't really go back and forth throughout locations, you don't really need a jump map. IF you are getting the bugs, you cannot go back after some parts so make sure you get them all. There is one in every location, even if you can't find it, its there! SG gives you a detailed account of where they are.
I recommend this game as a CE if its on sale otherwise I don't think its worth the money as its very short. It took me 3.5 hours counting the bonus game if that. The bonus game is a lot of hidden object scenes and busy work so its not needed in terms of closure. For the standard edition, I probably would have rated it differently. I definitely recommend the standard though as what this game lacks in other areas, it makes up with the fun of it all. I liked playing this game and although it is short, its a game I would play again.
I want to give this 5 stars sooo badly because I had such a good time playing it! I had only demoed a small portion of this before purchasing and I was afraid it was going to be another of the same ol pirate games we always get BUT this one surprised me. The graphics were crisp and bright even though they were on a creepy pirate ship and going to find treasure. Usually games like this are bleak and miserable but this one made me smile with all the colors the developers used! It was not an original story but it did keep me guessing in places.
The hidden object scenes were very ORIGINAL. It was the usual standard lists and interactive bits BUT there would be an item in green and when you click on that item, you get a close up screen of it and silhouettes of the little items surrounding it. Some were really tricky and in the bonus chapter, some of the hidden object scenes were all silhouettes so it was nice to see them changed up a bit because Eipix puts a lot of them.
There are 40 papers to collect and there are achievements. I was not a big fan of them to be honest though because it was all the usual ones (get 1 object in 1 second, 3 in 5 seconds, not skipping a puzzle etc etc) but then there were some curveballs in there like "Skip 5 puzzles and Complete Tutorial" Playing in Expert mode does not offer you the opportunity to get a tutorial so it doesn't make sense for there to be an achievement for that and who wants to skip 5 puzzles? More on the puzzles later. The three modes of difficulty were casual, expert and insane. Insane had no skips/hints or sparkles. Casual was the usual fare of sparkles, glints, tips etc. Expert is the one I usually play. It keeps hints and skips just in case but does away with sparkles HOWEVER in this game, Expert has sparkles for the hidden object scenes which really bugged me. You could change difficulty in the options menu but I think casual should be the only option with sparkles.
And here come some negatives...why its not 5 stars....
This is a short game especially for a collector's edition. I believe short games can be awesome but this left little to be desired in terms of closure. The main game does not have a satisfying ending nor does the bonus chapter. In fact the ending to the bonus chapter really confused me. The bonus chapter is the end of the story, ship breaks down on the way home etc etc. So in some ways the bonus chapter is not needed but if I want to play the standard and get that ending, I would not be happy. At least the bonus does clear some things up...But the game is short. Took me 3+ hours for all it. I think the puzzles have a lot to do with the length...
The puzzles in this game are easy and simple. Im all for easy puzzles sometimes but not a whole games worth. Most of them were putting in codes, moving parts around but one move would solve it, memory games with only 10 tiles, math ones which I usually take forever to finish so me being able to do it in 10 seconds means its easy. The achievement to skip 5 puzzles not only was not a good thing BUT with the puzzles being SOOO easy, I could solve them faster than the skip button would load and so I didn't want to sit there for 2 minutes waiting for it when I could just solve it. I own almost all of Eipix's games and I am not a fan of how easy this game is.
But despite its issues, I LOVED playing this game. I finished it within 2 days. Usually I take a week to get through games but once I started this again tonight, I literally could not stop. Had the puzzles been a little more thought provoking and the expert level not have had sparkles, I probably would have voted this 5 stars. Its definitely a fun game and even without the bonus chapter, you can probably figure out what happens. Its very predictable but its still nice to have a proper ending.
I recommend this game and as always with Eipix's games, don't forget to watch the "making of" when done with the full game. I love these developers, they are so funny! Dressed in pirate gear and going to pubs to shoot the movie parts but there are random people there just hanging out. It would be so fun but so embarrassing but at least you are getting paid for it! I cannot wait to see what else this team can do!!
This game is really fun and I did have a good time playing it. It is very good value for the money as its a very long game. When it first starts you collect crystals pretty quickly so I assumed with only 15 to find throughout the game, it would go by fast but I was very wrong. The game had many, many locations, lots of puzzles and a fair amount of hidden object scenes that you each play twice and at least one item is interactive. The voiceovers in this game are very well done except for that of the mothers! Whenever she is talking about her son tim being missing, her voice is so neutral, no worry or excitement. I think I would be frantic if this happened to my son lol
But the reasons for this not being a 5 star game are many and even though I rated it a 4, I think a 3.5 would be more on par. There is no way to lock the inventory so it bobs up and down (a real pet peeve of mine). There are lots and lots and lots of locations but there is no map not even to look at to see where you are. I think I could have lived without a jump map but there are times I wish I had a map of the town as it was much bigger as I thought. Usually once you are done in certain areas, you do not need to go back but I found near the end and in the last couple locations you did have to go back for hidden object scenes and a map would have been a nice touch. I wonder if there was one in the collector's edition or not...
Although I did enjoy this game, I also felt like I couldn't wait for this game to end. I know that is a weird thing to say but in some parts, it kind of dragged on. And then there is the ending. Since this game is so long, I assumed there would be a proper ending. All along you see your son and the scientist who kidnapped him in little xray videos and the boy steers you in the right direction and the scientist tells you that you will never get through or destroy his plan. (usual talk) BUT even though you do resolve one part of the game, you are left hanging with another huge part. The scientist is never revealed nor his evil plans or what he even took your child for. The ending makes it very clear that it ends in the bonus chapter. For me that is unacceptable! Had I known this, I don't know that I would have been so keen to buy their latest game as I hate developers who do this. I remember this game didn't have many bells and whistles in the collectors edition, prompting me to buy the standard and I shouldn't get punished for doing so. After such a long game, to not have a resolution on one of the major parts of the game, really irked me.
Despite the abrupt ending and my other pet peeves, I did enjoy this game. Near the end, there were a lot more puzzles and I liked that. I played on a hard mode and had hints in hidden object scenes but not in the main game and I really enjoyed that. its been awhile since I played that way and since there is no map, I would have to wander around until I stumbled across what to do and it was usually a hidden object scenes since there were no sparkles (thank you devs) and it made the game just a tad harder which I enjoy.
I recommend this game because its fun but if you are a person who is really into storylines like me, you might be kind of disappointed with the abrupt ending. If someone has the collector's edition of this, I would love to know what the bonus chapter was about. Private message me :)
