Im on the fence about this game as I love the developer to pieces and LOVE every single one of their games but this one just fell flat for me. There are beautiful graphics, a bonus chapter, you can switch between dominos or hidden object lists with very interactive scenes, it has voiceovers and achievements and all that for a Standard Edition game is amazing and worth at least 4 stars but the story line was really lacking for me. I just did not really care if she found her fiance or saved the day or not.
Im really sick of "scary bad guys" that have black capes or cloaks...red or green eyes ooo and float around. Its been done too many times and there is always some magic spell to get rid of them and some twister at the end. I have obviously played one too many hidden object game but there are some that just WOW and this just didn't. I am generously giving it 4 stars but Id only rate it about a 3.5. I have seen this developer do better and I know how great they are so this isn't up to the same standards.
BUT I do recommend this game to people who aren't sick of guys in cloaks with red eyes floating around and who love this developer as I do and want a long quality game with lots of extras but not double the price. The voice acting is what put me off the most. After Robert comes out of the trance he's in, he's fine, talking about things, able to drive a sub LOL after that, Id think he'd need some time to relax and I don't understand how they all survived under water with no scuba gear but hey its a game! lol
The bonus game was the prequel to what happened to EDEN. I kind of laughed at the name of this utopia place they made to escape freedom as it was overcome by evil kind of like adam and eve. Im not religious just spiritual but it made me kind of chuckle. However, its not religion based, you won't be offended, its just something that made me smile.
This game is a treasure. The SE is super long, maybe took me 6+ hours to play and would have been hours longer had I not skipped so many puzzles. I just wasn't in a puzzle mood when I played this game so I only did a few of them but had I completed them all, this game would have taken me 9+ hours as some of the puzzles were rather challenging however the skip button fills fast.
There are 3 modes of play, widescreen, non interactive hidden object scenes as this is an older game (2011). The SE has a COMPLETE ENDING! Its much better than its prequel, The Bride which had no ending in the SE or CE. The werewolf story was brilliant and not a cliche. It was very well laid out and very well told. The story never wavered and everything you did made sense to the game. The last photo scene is shorter than the others but by that time, I didn't really mind as the game was so lengthy. Usually lengthy games bore me to pieces after awhile but this game kept my interest the whole time and took me over a week to play doing some each night. Since its different photos and has a transporter map, its easy to remember what to do compared to some other games I have.
There is a suitable ending in the SE edition which is two thumbs up for me. I would have liked to know a little bit more about what happens with the assistant but it wasn't necessary to enjoy the game. There are 2 difficulty levels. I played the hardest and although hidden object scenes didn't sparkle, every once in awhile, little glints would appear around certain areas especially if I took too long in one place. it wasn't overly annoying though.
The gameplay was rather easy. There weren't that many puzzles but the ones they had I was able to do. The hidden object scenes were a mix of lists and associations. I liked the twist and not knowing which one you'd encounter. Some of the associations were hard, needed the hint button for sure. The story moved along by finding film reels. I liked that aspect, made the game make sense.
The only thing missing in this game was the widescreen support button didn't work on my computer, clicked or unclicked. There were some dark places where I literally could not see the items I needed to find and a map would have been nice as there are a lot of places you need to go back and forth from especially in the beginning. Its a rather linear game but there are a lot of locations, a lot more than I originally thought and it flowed quite well. I had a fun time playing it although it was not the longest game. Probably took me 3 hours but short games can be fun too.
I definitely recommend this one. Kudos to a new developer.
This is one of those games where you just want to strangle the developer. When it first came out, I loved this game and then it has one of the most abrupt endings ever and no info about what happens after that. People who bought the CE say the bonus chapter didn't really sum up anything for them either just had an intro that Luisa and her husband sell their house and get married and move on and since there are now other tales in this series, it makes more sense maybe to why the developers left the story so abrupt and open ended.
When I played this game, I was so disappointed that I boycotted this entire series for years. Its only in the last couple months I have allowed myself to take a closer look at the next few games in this series, read reviews and I ended up getting them because they have closure. It was a REALLY big disappointment in this game because the rest of it was sooo good and sooo different for its time. Elephant games really dropped the ball on this game but I think they learned because since this offering (one of the first I believe) they have really come along as a company and I support and love most all of their games.
Its a necessary game for the series but don't expect any closure. Luckily for you, the other sequels are already out so you can keep the story going. For us that bought this when it first came out, it was despair and WHY?
This might have a few spoilers but nothing that will ruin the game. You NEED to play the first 2 before playing this game or it will not make any sense. In fact, playing the first 2 games and then this one didn't make much sense either. I think for this trilogy of games to be successful you have to buy the CE's because I didn't and from what I've read in other reviews says that the bonus chapters filled in the story more...
I found this game OK...it wasn't terrible but it wasn't terribly exciting either. I bought it because I wanted the conclusion to this trilogy which I sort of got but it just left me with questions. Like what did Angel & Mark from the first 2 have to do with the prequel? I almost feel like this game is a remake of Jurassic Park but instead of dinosaurs, its mutant creatures derived from a plant that has healing properties but also turns people into monsters. That being said, not really sure what happened to Mark or Angel.
While he's exploring the island in the first one does he sniff said plant and end up turning into a creature himself? Or was everything a hallucination before we see Angel? Was Angel really in a hospital? And if so, what for? What did the lost souls in that picture album in the 2nd one have to do with anything? Then in this one...its a prequel so Ernesto lives but in the 2nd one he's in the morgue...why? why would he come back to a place where his mom died and evil was lurking? I get family history but come on now.
So I am deciding to view it as a Jurassic Park phenomenon. In that movie, they need to leave the island because dinosaurs have taken over, killed a bunch of people and its not safe. But afterwards, no one tends to the island, kind of like in this game. Everything stays as it was because no one wants to deal with it or knows if what they saw was real or thinks anyone will help them anyways, so it stays the way it is. years and years go by and then someone decides they want to go back to the island and have a look. They heard danger was there and what do you know? IT IS and the same thing happens where everyone dies blah blah because the island is been taken over. Its a place you should never return under any circumstances. It should have been quarantined years ago. Change dinosaurs to spotted monsters and you have this game.
I played all 3 of these games within a 6 week period and it still is fuzzy so to truly understand this series, I recommend back to back and take notes. I, however, will add this to "played" pile and leave it at that.

This is a review of the entire completed game. This game is a mind trip if there ever was one. Half the time you are in her hallucinations and the other time you are not in dream world. There is no actual ending to this game except a lot of questions and WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED? However, I did like it. It is a necessity to play the first one or you will be so confused and its already confusing so make sure you play twisted lands-shadow town...
Since there is a prequel to all of this, Im hoping it will explain things a little better but I liked the puzzles and gameplay. Since this is an older game, there are no interactive hidden object scenes but there aren't so many hidden object scenes that its annoying. This game took me approx 5 hours to play BUT I read EVERYTHING. The journals explain a lot and without them, I wouldn't have understand anything.
Since in the last game you were Mark and in this game you are Angel, it really flowed well. It was interesting being in her mind. There's still a lot of things I don't understand but I almost think that is the point of this game. Hopefully Origins will wrap it up nicely. I do recommend but only if you've played the first one.
I love this series and this chapter especially. Boom Zap are amazing developers. IF you start with the first one in the series and then look at this one, they have really grown as a company. The hidden object scenes in this game were amazing. They were not just move an item and get the item but a complete interactive work of art. I was thrilled anytime I found one and wish there would have been more. Usually I get quite bored of hidden object scenes but this one was the complete opposite because they were so creative.
I decided to play the normal mode so I wouldn't get too stressed. I know there are achievements but some of the puzzles were just too much for me at this time. Since I own it, I can always go back and replay them but the suduko type games kept getting harder and harder and the colors and shapes were a little too much to bare. I love the fact this game had nonograms but a suggestion would be to let us do a "X" when we suspect its the wrong place. It makes them easier to figure out instead of this one which didn't let you do that. That was my only real disappoint with the game because I had bought the CE because it had nonograms and they are kind of tedious although I did enjoy the bonus chapter.
I loved the outcome of the story. All the different characters. Owl and pocket dragon to accompany you both in the game and bonus chapter. These games to me are so magical that I cannot find much wrong with them. There is an ending in the SE but the CE does set it up for a sequel and although the SE does have an ending, it does seem to me that it implies there will be another which is quite okay with me!
I definitely recommend this game! I recommend this entire series! Each one gets better and better!!
I really love this game. In my past year or so I've bought many games, most of which are still unplayed but I have replayed this one a couple times. The story is simple. Go save your sister from bluebeard. He has a room that his wives were not allowed to go into but they did and their souls were trapped. You go to save your sister or figure out what is going on.
The atmosphere is creepy, "blue" toned colors everywhere. There are 2 different difficulty levels although hidden object scenes still have a little sparkle in expert. There is an amazing scene with a red leafed tree. Its one of the most beautiful and fascinating scenes in a game of this caliber. This was never a CE so for it have such magnificent features is a real plus. There are a lot of rooms to explore. When you use inventory items, the screen will lock them into place if they are to be used there.
The only downsides of this game are the loading scenes between scenes. Its pretty fast, you don't wait long. It didn't deter me from the game but also the music is quite repetitive. Fitting for what the game is. The colors are all blue toned but hey its BLUE beards castle. You never see blue beard...it has no voiceovers but it doesn't need them. There is no helpful hint button outside of hidden object scenes in expert. Im not sure about normal mode as I have never played it but in expert, it just tells you to keep searching the castle for clues.
The ending is predictable but I really enjoyed this game. Its not a long game but it is an entertaining one. I have replayed this at least twice now and each time I find things I like about it more. I definitely recommend it.
Let me start by saying i used to LOVE this series. USED to is the key word here. When demoing the CE, I had written off this game for having too many Hidden Object scenes, which it does, but having looked at a walkthrough, there are only 8 hidden object scenes that you play twice each. So I thought maybe I had overreacted....I should have stuck with my first opinion...
The game HAS AN ENDING in the SE mode so thats a huge plus for me as most of the ERS games I own the SE of, have a cliffhanger. So kudos for that. The plot was disjointed however. The thief wasn't scary at all. He had a cape and converse shoes. I love me some converse shoes but they don't really scream scary more like skateboard kid. There were lots of things to do but a lot were completely ILLOGICAL in my opinion.
Also, a huge downfall for me was the hint button. I played on the hardest mode BUT the hint button worked outside of the hidden object scenes supposedly. The hint button worked to give direction til about halfway through the game when it started giving me directions to places there was nothing to do. Places that used to be hidden object scenes but I had already done the scene or it would take me into a room but then the second I got there took me back out. It basically malfunctioned which would have been fine if there was a map but there wasn't. That cost me lots of time wandering around aimlessly so I had to stop and look at a walkthrough. I can't remember the last time I needed a walkthrough for a game. Sometimes that doesn't bother me BUT in this case when there is a hint button that is SUPPOSED to work, it bothers me I had to step out of the game to go see a solution and when I had the solution, it was things like...I didn't put it in the sweet spot or some illogical thing that made no sense. So I was really really annoyed by the end.
The graphics as always are spot on with ERS. My other big complaint is, if Im playing in the hardest mode it means I don't want sparkles on anything and when ERS says it has no sparkles, it lies because there are sparkles on every hidden object scene. Mentioning Hidden Object scenes...there were a lot of back to back ones that really irritated me. Sometimes it was the same scene I had just played~! There is a part between chapter 2 and 3 that is VERY Hidden object heavy...then it thins out for awhile but then it goes back to that really heavyness only its the "new" type scenes. I usually like those however in this game, they didn't make sense. I needed hints to figure out what to even do...
And then I hit the last hidden object scene in the pirate ship...Until then I was going to give this game 4 stars...Its an okay game, I liked it okay until this scene because I have just played "redemption cemetery-grave testimony SE" and in that game, in one of the chapters, is a pirate boat theme which I really enjoyed at the time...
HOWEVER, all the exact drawings and characters and colors were in gold bug so its RECYCLED MATERIAL. That really irritates me because if Im buying a game, it needs to be new material, not the same old stuff, rehashed in a new game. I was really appalled at that and already annoyed at the fact the hint button doesn't work and that there are too many scenes back to back and the sparkles so thats why I give it 3 stars and I recommend it to ERS lovers but if you are like me and have played tons of these games for many years, this just does not measure up to my standards of what a good game is supposed to consist of. And boo to me for doubting my first instincts and buying this. Money talks and until this company listens, I am no longer buying ERS games.
Your friend, Mary, disappears and it's up to you to save her. Uncover an exotic land with unearthly secrets as you find and help your friend leave the flying island.
The graphics in this game are sooo life like, so amazing. Colorful and fun. There are fragment object scenes in this but not too many to be overwhelming. Its more of an adventure lite game emphasis on the LITE. It has voiceovers, lots of options and 3 different difficulty levels. It has lots of puzzles all of different difficulties, most unique and fun. The plot was subpar for me. I didn't really understand what I was doing half the time but it was so pretty that I didn't really care and then it ended AFTER 2 hours, Id beat the whole game. There are 6 crystals to collect and done well this could have been a nice lengthy and fun game especially since it had so many puzzles and it had the fragmented objects but its like the developers got bored with it and said ok game over.
Its such a waste too because this is such a great concept and so beautiful. Brought me back to old file adventure games in the sense of the bright, colorful, life like graphics...but the ending was abrupt, didn't make sense and the entire game suffered because of it. I have played some REALLY REALLY good short games but unfortunately this isn't one of them....
