Just when I thought I'd seen all possible variations on the "haunted house" theme, this game opens yet new twists and turns in the ghostly tales dept. The story is hauntingly sad, and the odd happenings at the old ranch house gave me the appropriate shivers and even a shock or two! The voices are well done, the HOGS are challenging, and the game's mechanics just right. So what's not to love? Well...The purple/pink/blue color scheme while eerie, sometimes makes small objects hard to see, and could've inspired even more chills if colors had been more "normal" .After all, you might expect odd goings-on in a weird looking place, but would be even more distressed and downright horrified were the house quite ordinary in appearance. The HOGS are very ingenious but when frustration levels rise, it's nice to have the puzzle to fall back on. Altogether a great game and certainly worth a try. If you've never played this series before or are an "old hand", you'll find lots to enjoy in this "spirited" offering from a great developer. Enjoy!

Can't wait to meet previously unknown relatives? Best go slow, fishie as this family brings more than nostalgia to this reunion! The game begins with only mild creepiness, but quickly descends into virtually unending horror as the true backgrounds of your relations are revealed. No black cats, gold bugs or any outward signs to help. By the time you begin on knowing about each individual, you're hooked and cannot put the game aside. Everything in the game works well: the graphics are clear and haunting, sounds and music are appropriate and collectables are everywhere! The SG is helpful but doesn't return to where you left off. A very minor fault for sure. It's one of the very few horror HO's I've wanted to replay not to better my scores but for the eerie fun and fascination it evokes. So give it a try and see if it appeals to you. Just watch out for invites to a mysterious reunion in a run-down mansion!

The beauty of the graphics and the eerily enchanting music may draw you into the Elven Kingdom to help rebuild it using magic cards. The cards are clear, attractive and fit perfectly with the setting. There's an optional tutorial which, while not totally clear (at least to me# in details of the rebuilding part of the game, is useful especially for those new to solitaire. The card game itself is, well, is just solitaire #golf version) in which you chain higher/lower cards regardless of suit. There are the usual power-ups like mulligans, and wild cards. The play is smooth, and you have an opportunity to replay each hand. The wild cards aren't fully wild as they are numbered but very useful as when your deck is nearly empty and you can't make any more chains. In sum, the game is a solitaire of good looks, good play and a decent if not spectacular back story. But basically, it's a solitaire we've played often before but done better than many out there. I recommend it on it's merits, but if you're looking for some new variations, you may have to go elsewhere. As always, try it and be the judge.

The graphics are clear and colorful, the animation smooth and the VO's quite good. But for me the outstanding thing about this HO romp is the humor and gentle satire of HO games, dark, brooding storylines and stock fantasy characters. The game seems to include itself in the pointed humor! As you help Brunhilda and her oddball demon sidekick (who also happens to be the hint button# restore magic to a fantasy land you'll find lots of HO scenes, puzzles and some arcade-like games. These games can be played and become more challenging as your skill levels rise. The hints are plentiful and often funny i.e. re-clicking a wrong object in a HO scene may make the demon say "You checked that out already! Enough!" The frequent dialogue and oddball comments may not be to a player's taste so they've thoughtfully included a silencing option for the demon. The objects to be found usually call for some back and forth movement but that isn't much of a downer in a game that may well leave you laughing. I suggest giving it a try as you may find it your cup of tea. #If you gather enough tea leaves, the wizard may join you!#.
I've enjoyed board chase games since childhood. Sorry, Parcheesi and similar ones. So I was prepared to play and enjoy some nostalgia, too. But I found the game disappointing on many levels. First, the graphics are cartoon-ish but nothing attractive or creative about them. Your avatar and the computer's persona are, if not plain ugly then far from attractive. Same for game board and backgrounds. The instructions were adequate but lacked details that would've made the game simpler at the start. Having tried both I found turning off camera rotation was easier to relate to and non-distracting. The music wasn't for me so I silenced it During the demo there were no VO's or other sounds. This is a matter of taste, and you may enjoy the melody. In sum, a good premise and a fun theme but needs more work to really grab and hold the human player. But try it for yourself and you may find it enjoyable.

I'm a softie when it comes to Christmas. Trees, stockings, cozy fireplaces, the whole show. So I thought this game'd be a natural for me. Well, the music is nice, the graphics are bright, clear and colorful with fun animations and special effects. There are items to find, even some that morph and the voice-overs are mostly quite good. But I'm not sure what audience would truly enjoy this romp through "Cat Town" to find the magical Christmas star, now stolen from Santa's museum. I think ideally a child would enjoy the concept and plot but would need lots of adult help in some HO scenes and several mini games. My advice is to play the trial and judge yourself. I found the others in this series fun and challenging and on an adult level. But you may find it your cup of eggnog, so give it a go.

If you enjoy HO's and choosing décor, this may be the game for you! If you're a m3 fan you'll feel at home here. But if you have poor vision and can't magnify the screen, later levels may pose a problem as many items are sized out of proportion to reality and are VERY small. The game is much like Gardenscape and others in that you're finxing up Grandma's old house by having garage sales and buying new décor with your income. There are some twists, 'tho, all to the good. There are m3 bonus rounds where you've gotta match and remove items to find stamps. (There's a reward for finding them.# You can also play extra scenes of various types e.g. matching, object hunting, etc. There's a timed mode but also "relaxed" play. There are some minor downers, 'tho but not big enough to ruin the game. If you find the music annoying #as I do# if you turn it off, all sound goes, too. Some speech bubbles come and go too quickly but that's a matter of vision and speed reading. In sum, this is a very good game of it's type and worth a try.

I'm a mahjong fan so I knew I had to try this one. Happy I did! The graphics are bright, clear and relaxing. The tiles (some of which are round stones shapes# are big and the backgrounds don't get in the way. So why the 4? Well, the sound of the closed tiles got to be annoying after awhile but that's a small, very small downer. Those having played 2 earlier similar games will feel right at home with the green pearls and power-up cost. #I think the bonus wheel was also in the earlier games but not for sure on that!) The similarity isn't a negative, but a great chance to play a type of mahjong in an already liked format. If you're new to mahjong or a long-time player you oughta give this game a try. You just might never let it go!

I usually don't like mazes. They're too frustrating for my delicate ego or something. Anyway, only the positives from respected reviewers got me to give it a try and.....Wow! Bam! Pow! The story got hold of me and I found myself as desperate for survival and freedom as the main character! Seldom has a game so sharply appealed to the emotions of the player. The graphics are suitable deadly drably and gloriously colored as necessary (no spoilers here, guys!). The VO's are highly suitable and the unique "fear meter" is an eerie aid to a spooky, spellbinding tale. Come to the maze, if you dare. Who knows? You may become so entangled in this game you won't want it to end!

The blurb for this game hinted that it was going to approach the Bathory story from a different angle, probing the idea that the Countess might've been "framed" and unjustly punished. I was anxious to see how this might work out. But from the outset, the game was a huge disappointment. The cartoonish flat and dull colored graphics might not have stopped my playing but combined with poor writing, unclear and often totally misnamed and miscolored items to find in the very plentiful HO scenes, a hint which had to be "bought" with coins earned by solving some of the HO's, and a mostly useless "tutorial" there just wasn't enough to make playing worthwhile. Twenty-five minutes was enough to convince me that this was not the eerie, mysterious and well crafted game it could've been but far, far less. My suggestion is to try out some of the truly excellent offerings out here and hope these devs will do better in future.
