I really enjoyed Puzzle Vacations. The best feature of this game is the many options a player can choose from to customize each game. From the picture categories, to the shapes of the puzzles pieces, to timing options and more, you have choices you can make to fit your skills. You may even set the pictures as your desktop wallpaper. I downloaded a cute picture of some dogs that I solved.
The many pictures are beautiful and there are fun facts about Australia and New Zealand. It's easy to learn and easy to follow, which is half the battle of a new game.
It is thoroughly enjoyable and I recommend this game for players of all skill levels, because there's something for everyone. Play the demo first to be sure you like the game. I loved it!
The Horrific Show is an awesome hidden object/puzzle game! Centered around a traveling carnival for Halloween, it's the perfect game to put you in the spirit of the holiday.
It's a creepy carnival with great graphics and characters, and this collector's edition has all the extras for additional game play. There is the trademark clicking on objects that react in a humorous way and I popped every balloon I saw :)
This is a solid game that I highly recommend. The only thing I rated a little lower was the level of challenge. It was a little easy, but that being said, some of the games give you the option of choosing a harder level.
Detective Agency is what I would consider a low level, no frills hidden object game. Unfortunately, it doesn't present well in the beginning, and I can see where a lot of players would leave the game fairly quickly. There are no voice overs, so you need to read the character dialogue. The music is atrocious and so awful it's distracting. There are also a ton of pop ups in the opening scene explaining all the ins and outs of the game as if to get it out of the way.
All that being said, I hung in there and played the demo. Once you get into the rhythm of the game, it isn't all that bad. There are mini-games and various ways of finding items, from silhouettes to putting two pieces together, to a magnifier letting you know to open something up. You also need to find a hidden raccoon in each scene.
Most story based hidden object games are much more sophisticated than this. MUCH more. But this isn't a bad little game once you get into it. Play the demo and give it a chance before buying. Three stars is about right.
This game gave me a good laugh. I chose to play the demo first and got settled into a land of kings and castles and horses and guards. One of the characters, when explaining about the magic of the trees, said something like this: "If they cut the trees down, we're screwed!" Holy cow...nothing like a little twenty-first century slang in a story from centuries ago! Oops!
This game had a lot of potential but fell short on some things. The cheese factor came in with the slang and the voice of a guard looking for a suspect. It was so awful it was cartoonish. It's these details that tip the scales from being a cheesy game to a great game. Game developers: pay attention to detail. It could be the difference between a successful game or a game that falls flat.
All that being said, it's not a bad little game. The challenge factor is moderate, so suitable for beginners and intermediates. The graphics and sound are good.
I'm going to be generous and recommend this game. It's not all bad and the fun factor is good. Just have some wine to go with the cheese ;)
Okay, I'm a sucker for baby animals and hidden object games, so for me, this is a match made in heaven.
One of my main frustrations with newer games is that the level of challenges are almost always easy. The challenge difficulty in this game is greater, and that's not such a bad thing. You are given tools to help find the baby animals, morphing butterflies, etc. Be sure to use them and it will help greatly. The magnifier is needed to find very small items and items hidden in the scene.
There are mini-games that also require thinking and hard work, but I enjoyed it very much and it's satisfying to complete a game after working at it.
Great graphics and great fun. Please try the demo first and make sure it's your kind of game. It's a great game to hone your skills on any level. I highly recommend!
My review is based on the trial of Faulty Creatures. I always enjoyed the Haunted Legends series, but over time the games declined in quality. They became hit and miss and I stopped playing the series for a while.
In 2023, I thought I'd revisit one of the games I hadn't played and Faulty Creatures is a winner. It's a good, old-fashioned who-done-it in a mansion inhabited by aristocracy. No freaky paranormal or sci-fi storyline here. A love story, jealousy, and everyone with a reason to kill a young lady lying dead on the floor.
The graphics are terrific. There are many suspects and characters to talk to and interact with, so it isn't a solitary game. There's some scares and creepy scenes and the story moves along without getting tedious or boring as you investigate.
If you like a good, old-fashioned murder mystery, this is for you. I thoroughly enjoyed it and intend to buy. I recommend for players of all skill levels. Great fun!
If you are looking for some Halloween fun, this game is for you. This is a Match-3 game with many challenges. A timer keeps you on your toes as difficulty is added to each level when completed. Coins are earned after each level that the player can take to the store and buy Halloween items to decorate a spooky patio in a haunted mansion.
I recommend this game for Match-3 fans as it's a solid game and well done. I enjoyed the game play very much, but try the demo first to be sure it's one you will enjoy, too.
I've been wanting to expand my game play from story games to other genres. So I gave Rescue Agency a try. I was a little skeptical because the opening graphics are a little child-like: a little cartoonish and yes, there was a unicorn...lol. But I gave it a chance, and now I'm hooked :)
Being new to this type of game, I will say that the tutorial explained everything easily so I picked up gameplay and goals pretty fast.
It's a lighthearted fantasy game that wasn't meant to be serious...it's just good fun and at least for me, a bit addictive. I recommend this game to anyone who wants to try a different style of game from what you're used to. Try the demo first to check it out and see if it's suitable for your taste. I loved it!
I've been trying to expand the kind of games I play, which is mostly story based/hidden object, so I saw Welcome to Ukraine and decided to give it a chance.
To be honest, when the game opened, I thought, Oh dear. I'm not going to like this. The opening screen and graphics were very primitive. But once into the game, I was pleasantly surprised! I enjoyed learning a little about Ukraine through puzzle pictures of things native to the country and a short narrative about what they were.
I do like match-3 and one plays them to earn points to buy tickets to open various areas on a map of the country.
It's a solid little game that is interesting as well as challenging. I would be play the demo first to be sure it's the game for you. I do recommend the game and was glad I gave it a try.
I've been with Big Fish for many years and became a fan of PuppetShow from the very beginning. It was quirky and macabre in a compelling way. But as time passed and new games were developed, it lost its way. It's been many years since I stopped playing PuppetShow because it was in decline.
I saw this game and decided to revisit PuppetShow. I loved all the familiar parts of the game: the steampunk style, a few creepy dolls, etc. But it falls flat for me. The most frustrating thing for me was how easy the gameplay was. There is no thinking involved and the level of challenge is easy on steroids. The cyborg isn't frightening or scary. The characters speak blandly and without urgency, even though they are in life-threatening situations. Game developers need to put as much effort into voiceovers as they do game play.
I miss the dolls with mismatched bodies creeping through every scene and a higher level of challenge. I'm sorry to score lower than everyone else for a beloved series, but it still has a lot of room for improvement. I would recommend my favorites in the series: the very first few when PuppetShow was awesome.
