First off - I'm a huge fan of 5-BN. They are the only remaining adventure developer on BFG that hasn't compromised their quality over the years. That said, this is a great game. Unlike, games from other developers, I didn't become bored within 30 minutes of starting it. I definitely recommend this one!
The visuals in this game are geared to kids. The story was an absolute mess. It was just plain weird. I feel like this and almost every adventure game released on BFG these days are geared to kids. I'd like to think that most of us are adults. Elephant used to be my favorite developer. That ended when they switch to what I call childish graphics. I bought this game but didn't finish it. The story just made little sense and it quickly became boring. I truly wish that BFG would realize that the company itself is the biggest reason adventure games are failing. They have reduced the graphics and challenge to that of a 10 year old. I realize they want to sell to the widest audience but reducing graphics to this level to reach even the oldest, lowest-end PCs is what's truly killing the adventure genre.
From the very opening moments, I could tell that this was going to be a great game. One of the things that I immediately appreciated was the quality voice-overs. Too often, BFG uses young employees to do the VOs and they are attrocious. The story-line is engaging. The puzzles and hidden object scenes and often unique. I highly recommend this game. This is the first positive review that I've done in quite some time. Great job, GrandMa!
Now that Elephant has taken this series over from Madhead, I thought it might be a nice change. The first thing that turned me off immediately was the awful VO for Mistress Eve. You have some young girl, trying to do a voice and accent of a Caribbean native and the result is grating to say the least. If it was only at the beginning, it would have been tolerable, but not over and over. I uninstalled after about 1.5 hrs. BFG needs to expand its VO actors outside of employees of the company.
My favorite remaining BFG adventure developer returns. Cheers to one developer that has bucked the BF trend of ever decreasing quality. This game is outstanding, as all of their games are. I just wish more of the other developers would go back to producing higher end graphics and better quality. Great job once again, 5-BN!
Judging from some of the reviews and my experiences with some recent Elephant games, i wasn't expecting to like this game. As it turns out, I do like it. Elephant developers know how to do great graphics. It's BFGs decision to make graphics cartoonish so that they play or more PCs that's the real issue these days. At some point, if you want great looking games and a trouble-free playing, you have to upgrade your system. All that aside, I do recommend this game. It's much better than most of the recent offerings for adventure games.
I'm puzzled by the bad reviews. No, this isn't like the MCF games from the 2012-2014 period when BFG was at its peak. I still enjoyed this game. I do wish that BFG would raise the bar on the tech specs for its games so that the quality could improve. Making the games work on even the lowest level PCs is costing the rest of us in terms of quality. At some point, folks just need to buy a new PC. One negative - this is the 2nd GrandMa game in a row that keeps crashing with a memory error. This doesn't happen with any other game or application on my PC and the PC is brand new and very high-end
I like most games by Grandma, and I like this game. That said, there are two frustrating factors for me, (1) I get a memory error crash almost every 10 minutes. This is a new high-end PC, so I don't see how that's the issue (2) 2/3 of the puzzles leave you scratching your head as to what the heck to do. This to me is not a challenge, but irritating instead.
Ok. I used to be an avid Elephant Games fan, but since BF has had trouble attracting new developers to the adventure game genre, they've decided ridiculously short games are fine as long as the developer keeps pushing out games faster. Elephant, this is a new low. This game is hardly worth a Standard Edition price with its brevity. Was it a fun game? It ended before any of us could decide. BF and Elephant, you can do better. We've all seen what you can do in your past games.
This is NOT a review of this game but a solution to the activation issue. I can only say for sure that this will work for those of you with a LARGE GAME LIBRARY (over 500 games) Also, I am just another "fishy". I have no association with BFG at all. I’ve spent far too many hours trying to figure out what BFG should have done before they released this disastrous, platform "improvement."
Fix: 1 – From BFG Game Manager, download the trial 2 – Of course, it won’t activate after install 3 – Next open File Explorer (don’t worry this isn’t a hard process) 4 – Go to the following folder: C:\BigFishCache\Upgrade\stub 5 – Click the stub link 6 – Game manager will flash and display a splash page that will say time is running out. At the bottom is a REACTIVATE IT link – click it! 7 – Game Manager will install the full game – it will go through two installs. I can only assume its removing the original trial version 8 – You should have an activated game! Hope this helps many of you. I could vent a lot of steam here about the ridiculousness of having to go through this, especially for those of us who’ve been around long enough to have such large game libraries. One would think that this large library issue would have been fixed YEARS AGO.
