The second game in the Royal Detectives series by Elephant Games ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's been so long since the very first Royal Detective was released, and the second one returns with a vengeance, or does it?
The story apparently continues from the first game (it's been years since the Lord of Statues that I forgot already what the story is about), and this time you are supposed to save the princess mother and in the end you also have to save princess herself. I think the princess is whiny and spoilt, kind of annoying..
There are 4 levels of difficulties. Map and hint is useful, but I don't really use the map because the hint itself can transport us to places. HOG games are easy finding objects on the list and puzzles are moderate. Your collectibles are dragons, they may not be visible first time but when you return back on a scene, it will be there. There is almost no VO, not much background music. The scenery is still wintery, not as heavily like the first game, but still a good to be played on a hot summer day.
Bonus contents unfortunately have nothing special on it so you can skip it. I like Elephant Games so this game is still a buy for me, but this game overall a bit failed to succeed the first game. I will suggest you buying the SE instead,as there's no much CE worthy in this one except the main game itself. This is the very first time I don't recommend a CE from Elephant Games, but I suggest you also to try the demo and see whether you like the extras..
The sixth game in the Dark Parables series by Blue Tea Games ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Dark Parables has returned! Those of you who are familiar with the series surely know of this series which feature famous fairytales with a twist. Now it has returned with "Jack and the Beanstalk" inspired story.
There are 3 levels of difficulties. Very nice cinematic, like a scene from a real movie. They also flows very naturally, as if not drawn. Jack is more like Indiana Jones :D
Map too bad cannot transfer us to places, plus it doesn't show where any action should be, so it's pretty much useless. There are morphing objects too, to refill your hint meter faster. Along the way you also collect Parables Token to unlock the parables story.
All HOG scenes are FROG, a trademark of this game dev. IF you are looking for other diversity in HOG scenes, you might have to find it somewhere else. Puzzles are moderate, if you skip a puzzle, the hint button will be disabled for about 3 minutes.
Bonus contents unfortunately has nothing special in it, the best part would be the Parables Notes, which I like in all their series. I think this game is better than all other Dark Parables series. If you have to buy one of their games in this series, I strongly recommend this one.
The fourth game in the Myths of the World series by Eipix ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have mixed feelings about this series. I like their very first one, Chinese Healer but I dislike Stolen Spring and Spirit Wolf. This game seems to offer something different that I decided to try. Glad I was right. This game is exceptional and way better than even the Chinese Healer game.
There are 3 levels of difficulties. Graphic and sound are definitely Eipix's greatest strength. Although a bit different than Elephant Games crispness in graphic, this game dev. really offers stunning graphic games.
There are HO scenes and they are of new variety, I will say they really make some changes not to be the same with others. The puzzles are rather easy but it's good for me as beginner. VO is really nice, I felt like I am in Ireland. Game settings and background is also very nice, like being transported to medieval Europe.
There are several nice extras here, bubbleshooter, making of and Titania's Crown.
Definitely one of Eipix's best. If you have to buy one of the game in this series, this one is a must buy.
The second game in the Sea of Lies series by Eipix ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are 3 levels of difficulties. Again the story involved pirates. You are a woman detective investigating death of a famous citizen.
Nice VO and graphics, very crisp and fit the scenery. The music is the same like the previous one, a tropical kind of music. I think the VO here is the best among all of their games, really fit the setting in a Spanish(?)language speaking area. HO games are not the usual finding items on the list but more to finding items through silhouette.
Bonus contents are a lot altough I don't think I will make use any of them, I enjoy Making Of tab, of course, but they won't be adding much change to the game so I suggest you to just buy SE. The Chest Room is pretty nice, along the way you will collect chest of treasure in which you can spend money to decorate your, uh.. villa.
I kind of like this game, fast paced, map and hint is efficient and the story seems very engaging. Although it's usual detective work, there are lots of characters to suspect, and make the game more enjoyable.
The fourth game in the Shadow Wolf Mysteries series by ERS ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are 3 levels of difficulties. As usual and the title suggests, it;s about wolves and werewolf. Something new this time round is that we investigate the characters when we first met them in the game. I think it's kind of neat.
I hate that the game features kind of graphic like blood and flesh, was not my cup of tea but this game story is way better than the previous two games in the series. Definitely packed with more action.
Too bad on the first chapter itself the game progresses really slowly. Just to get outside the house takes lots of tasks and chores, going back and forth. Luckily the map is useful to transport us around.
HO is fine, mostly placing items in correct places, and there's Match-3 games if you don't like the HOG scenes. Puzzles are mostly easy. Extras have nothing new in them so you can skip it and simply buy the SE. I like the Midnight Hunter tab though, which shows collections of items about werewolves.
All in all a neat game with action packed scenes. Seems a very promising game.
The second game in the Off the Record series by Eipix ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I had their first game: Linden Shade and was not impressed so I tried the demo of their second game in this series. This game has nothing to do with their first game so you can buy it without having to buy the first game.
As usual Eipix game is combining animations and live actors, which I think they should really consider not doing anymore because it seems forced and unnatural. VO is kind of off. Don't fit the characters at all.
There are 3 levels of difficulties. The game sets in Venice, although I like games set in Europe, there's not much plot can happen in Venice except art thief. This plot has been done before in other games. Hope they can be more original in creating storyline.
The HO games are usually finding objects from silhouettes. The hint is useful if we choose custom difficulty, but the map, as pretty as it is, doesn't really serve any good purpose. Plus it is so well hidden behind the hint button if we dont really look we won't find it, not that it is useful anyway :(
However I still think this is better than their first game, the Venice setting is gorgeous and full of details.
Overall just a so-so game, it was not awesome but still give a good game nonetheless from dark, creepy game. Good for enjoying summer holiday, I think.
The third game in the Final Cut series by Eipix ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you haven't played the previous games in this series fear not, they put the story in the intro so it's kind of spoil the games but that means you can even play without playing the others.
You are still playing as the heroine, and this time your villain looks like Jason, whose motive I don't feel is clear enough. I think that in the first two games it was already concluded and the third game seems like to make it long, by making new plot and story.
There are 3 levels of difficulties. The graphic and VO are fine, but I dislike combining live actors and drawings, it seems forced. The switching between reality and fantasy reminds me with Secrets of the Dark games, but they come out first so this one is kind of copy the idea.
The hint and map are pretty useful, thankfully. The HO and puzzles are fine. The HOG is usually combining things and the usual finding items in the list. The puzzles unfortunately are rather childish. I was disappointed that Eipix made such game.
I hope this will be the last Final Cut game they will make.
The fourth game in the Grim Facade series by ERS ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another Grim Facade game! These days I dont buy games from this dev. because their games are predictable and seem to be pushed into sale just for the sake of it. The storyline has significantly decrease in quality, and the only thing improving is the graphics.
However what I like most from this series is that the games are set in Europe. This time it is in Spain. The villain is a headless horseman, but there's a twist here. The ghost has the head, it's looking for its sword. The ghost face graphic is scary looking, I admit, and it is potrayed several times. But the ghost itself came out randomly, making it unscary(?).
One good thing about this game is the way the investigation goes although sometimes there're unnecessary tasks that seem to be there to longer the game
HO and puzzles are diverse, not the usual finding object stuff. VO is fine but I think don't fit the characters and location. I think they use adult again to voice out children. Graphic is better than their old games but cutscenes are weird, they always ended abruptly like a scene from a bad movie.
Overall if you dont mind the graphics it's a rather good game, worth to try.
The fourth game in the Dark Tales series by ERS ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I own previous games in this series and was convinced that it is a good series. I like good detective games and they are one of the best from this dev.
However I was a bit disappointed that this time the plot is about Captain Kidd's treasure. I am no fan of pirates and the like and only a small bit of pirate games out there are good. I was not interested with this plot at all, sadly.
There are 3 levels of difficulty and there are way too many mini games in this game that I had to skip all because I was not interested. Actually the puzzles are all of easy level but still it's annoying because it's in every corner. I The graphic is ERS's trademark washed out colors. The hint recharges realllyyy slowly.. even though I chose the beginner level.
There is VO, and everything is fine except for the villain who sounds so quiet it's whispering instead of threatening. Definitely unsuitable for the character. There is a dog which accompanies us during the investigation but then again I don't think we really need one, and it's only a gimmick from this dev. to include something furry and cute into the game.
The extras are the usual stuff, nothing new except calendar wallpaper, which of course I will never use. There are also replayable HOG and puzzles scenes, but I won't use it also. The bonus chapter is not that important to play.
Overall, I was not impressed with this game and sorry but I cannot recommend this game. If the plot is better then maybe it will make a great game, not sure if I want to buy the next one now.
This game is probably the scariest game I have played so far in BFG, although after playing for a while the scariness factor seems to cease.
Your hint is a possessed doll, but too bad it does nothing except emitting lights from its mouth. The map is fortunately pretty useful.
The interface is rather old style, besides spookiness I dont really see anything special with this game. The game ends just like that and shows the 2nd Part to be out this Autumn but not sure why I am not that excited for it to come out.
The bonus material is pretty diverse, which is good. I think the main attraction for this game is the scariness, which is fair, it was scary, but not THAT scary. There are times when the ghost came out and we can pretty much guess when: the cutscenes.
Too bad, although it was scary, I kind of dislike how the interface is slow, the HOG is full of junks and the dev. seems to make it clear for us to buy the 2nd game, and I am not sure why we should buy the CE if the bonus game is also nothing with the 2nd game. Hope those who want to buy this game read the reviews first before buying or buy the SE instead, the extra in the CE don't really worth buying..
