The second game in the Nightmares from the Deep series by Artifex Mundi -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you wanted to know how it looks like to play Pirates of Caribbean (POC), then this game is probably the most suitable. POC game with a twist, if you will. If you own their previous game in the series, it will help you much better to understand the background story.
3 levels of difficulties. HO and puzzles are the easy type, even for me as a beginner. Achievements probably add more fun to the game, as you have to find octopus, parrots and seahorses, among others along the game
Graphics, music and VO are all good. The bonus contents are the usual ones, nothing new and special. Luckily the game itself qualifies for an awesome game. Full of action and adventure, a nice game even if you don't like pirates! don't miss it!
The Emperor’s son has a mysterious illness. As legendary healer Daiyu, you’re called to the palace to save him, but you end up having to save yourself!
The first game in the Myths of the World series by Eipix ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eipix is the game dev that brought Final Cut series so I kind of trust this one will be pretty good. I like games set in the Orient but sadly not many games out there featured it so I was particularly happy when this one came out. Kudos to the game dev. for taking the challenge to venture the Orient. I like Chinese setting games so this one caught my attention pretty quickly.
There are 3 levels of difficulties. Game setting and atmosphere is really Chinese, which I really commend. The characters also look very Asian, and truly blend with the story. The music is also very East Asian, very nice.
The storyline is the usual plot happening in almost every kingdom, a bad guy trying to overthrow the throne. The ending is quite predictable, but anyway it's a happy ending. Looks like they are going to just make one story for this series, and they won't be related.
This game has lots of HO games, almost one in every scene, so it can get annoying at times. Puzzles are of the very easy variety, even for me who always skip puzzles. I don't even have to skip those puzzles cos they are very simple.
The bonus contents are the usual stuff, with the unusual only being the Making Of. And the collectibles are cranes which are pretty easy to find.
Overall a neat game, of all the Myths of the World games that I have tried, this one is the best one.
The second game in the Myths of the World series by Eipix ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Their first Myths of the World Game: The Chinese Healer was so good that I bought this game trusting it will be as good as it was,, however I was slightly disappointed that the game quality goes downhill after the first one.
There are 3 levels of difficulties and 1 custom. The game progresses slowly, giving you tasks to do in between objectives, maybe just to prolong the game?? The storyline itself is not the most original, kind of like snow queen who loves winter so much she didn't want spring to come, or something like that.
VO is good but characters animation is still a bit stiff. Movement of mouths and voice don't coordinate well, but this is not a big issue.
HOG and puzzles are relatively easy. The HOG can be switched to Match-3 game if you like to take a break finding objects. Be warned though that there's almost one HOG in every scene so this can get pretty annoying quickly.
One thing I really dislike about this game is their portraying cruelty to animals, very early in the game. This is one issue that I don't tolerate and disappoint me.
I am not sure if I will ever buy another game in the series unless they are as good as their first one, which I doubt but some people may still like this story so I will recommend this game for them.
The fifth(?) game in the Haunted Hotel series by Elephant Games --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a Haunted Hotel game but wasnt particularly impressed with it that when this one came out I was skeptical. But when I saw that this time EG is the one developing this game, I think I had to give this game a try.
This game definitely has EG characteristics: great graphics, nice VO. For storyline, EG likes to make detective games so this one is, too. The plot is not so original, you're investigating monsters which occupying a hotel, thus it is haunted. I dont think this game has particular relation with previous Haunted Hotel games so you dont have to worry about missing out a story.
Map is very useful, with clearly defined colors to mark active areas. Hints however is the usual "telling instead of showing" which I dislike as a beginner.
The bonus contents are the usual, and these days EG like to incorporate "Secret Room" in their extras and this one is no exception. It's like an extra chapter to finish, with around 20-30 minutes of gametime, which is good!
Definitely a game dev to look out for, although after finding out that their other games Rites of Passage are one of the best games out there, it is a no brainer.
4 levels of difficulties and 3 stories: main, bonus and hidden! definitely long enough to keep you occupied.
The story started with a stranger knocking on the door and you finding out a baby was left at your doorstep. Your mission is to return the baby to its rightful~~ parents??
Graphics are great, VO too. The interface is nice, the inventory bar is minimal at the bottom of the screen with interactive objects too. Gears the owl is very cute. It has cute voice too.
The first game in the Riddles of Fate series by Elephant Games --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another adventure game by EG! I was confused with the main intro of the game, who are we, what is the background story? we are suddenly thrown into the game to find the child of fate. After you play the game, the story slowly develops and you will know the story's background
The graphic is a bit different than the usual EG games, a bit blurry and not crisp, but it's not a big problem. The VO is very nice, I think I heard the character voiced out another EG somewhere, it sounds familiar. The collectibles are sinister looking statues, which you can find out the story behind each of them.
Serious issue I have with this game is the loading time, it is really slow to move in from one place to another, even clicking itself takes time. I think its because of my computer, but it doesn't happen with other games so this might be because of the game also.
The bonus contents are a lot, my favorite is the Secret Room with separate stories of its own. Louis the Bat is very very cute, like a doll. Surely beats all perceptions about bats out there! The Bat saves the whole game and make the creepy game bearable.
The fifth game in the Dark Parables series by Blue Tea Games --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is no introduction necessary if you are already familiar with this dev and their famous Dark Parables series. This time they return with a Cinderella tale with a twist. Warning that this is no ordinary fairytale and may not be suitable for kids.
It is widely known that Blue Tea Games like to make games of FROG, and if you are the type who enjoy a variety of HOG scenes, then this game can make you bored, as it seems like they wont change this anytime soon. The graphic of the characters are wonderfully drawn, the ladies characters are all very beautiful.
While playing the game you will collect items to complete the Parables, which I like. Map is not useful because it cannot transport you to places you have to do action, and it just boxes to indicate rooms with solid color background, so it;s pretty useless.
The bonus content is the same old, same old, except for the Parables which saves the day. The bonus chapter, the Oriental Cinderella is also good. There is no collectibles at all in this game, no morphing objects and the like. If you like this in a game, then this game may disappoint you, but for me this game is great. Love it.
The fourth game in the Grim Tales series by Elephant Games --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Grim Tales game is back with a creepy Bloody Mary story, definitely the one that got me hooked. The game is spooky (like the title itself isn't??) With good sound effect and graphic, the creepiness really does come across.
There are 3 levels of difficulties in this game. The story is as the title suggests: a Bloody Mary legend with a twist. Now I am not so familiar with the legend itself but the game surely gives the story a whole new level!I always like story about urban legends, ghosts and orphanages, so it really fits.
Great graphics, very creepy, nice VO, no live actors. What I dislike from this game is the hint, it's just confusing for me, one very long sentence of what you should do. As a beginner gamer, this is not very helpful. The map marking actions available and undiscovered rooms are in same color so it's also difficult to look at.
Collectibles in this game are monster statues which don't really serve much purpose. It's a bit difficult to find them as they blend really well with the background.
The bonus contents are the same variety except there is Hall of Memories, which I don't really make use of. Together with the collectibles, those are the two things that are new.
Exciting adventure game about sea pirates! You are supposed to gather items to open the amulet of the pirate and everytime you gather one, you will be presented with a continuing story till you find another item to complete the amulet.
Very nice VO and great graphics, the music really fits the game, very tropical and feels like at the beach! (although it is pretty much the same, the music is repeated way too much!)
HO games are various. The items also match the era and the scenery, no junk or unrelated items. Besides finding objects and combining objects, you also have to find items from their silhouette. This was nice at first but then it is getting pretty boring because every single HOG scene is the same. And there are lots and lots of HOG scenes in this game.
Extras are abundant with making of, movie and HO puzzles that can be replayed over and over again. The bonus chapter does not have really anything to do with the main game, so you can skip the CE if you think the main game itself is enough.
It should have been a tremendous achievement, but the tunnel through the Ridge of Leviathan became the site of a great disaster. What really happened that day?
The third game in the Surface series by Elephant Games ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yay, another Surface game! I loved their two predecessor games that I am so happy this one come out. Surface game series had deliver nice games in the past that I know I can also trust this one so I bought it without demo.
The story unfolds nicely with a good voice over. Throughout the game the story is narrated beautifully. The game has 3 level of difficulties. It has lots of suspense with unexpected ending.
The graphic as usual is top notch, crystal clear without any defect. The music is nice, sometimes tense to fit the scene. The hint is useful, but only tell you what to do, something that I, a beginner gamer find it hard to use.
The map is good, but instead of showing locations of current task, it gave all info about available tasks, even though it cannot be done right away, which is a bit misleading. The HO is the usual finding object with not much interactive. The puzzle I find very easy, even for me who dislike puzzles and skip them in every game.
The bonus contents are the usual variety, I only care for the bonus chapter. There is also The Pantheon section, which is confusing at first, it's a combination of HOG and puzzles collection. Since I am a fan, I have to collect the game so I bought the CE. Overall a very nice game. I hope the new one come out soon!
