There are already many reviews of this game, so I will just add my two cents worth to say that this is a great game in every way. Thoroughly enjoyable!
I really enjoyed playing this game versus some of the same old, tedious fairy tales that are so common. This is a good mystery with an interesting story that is well told. You collect evidence along the way in a journal. Game play is good with good HOS and puzzles. The HINT button works well. I missed what others complained about, the "Think" thing. The production is top notch, too. The story has a good ending, but I wondered if maybe there night have been more in the CE bonus chapter. From reading the CE reviews, apparently I didn't miss anything. This is a very enjoyable game and is well worth the SE pric.
As others have written, this series has really gone downhill. I knew this game was a bummer when they said there are crocodiles in Louisiana! They are alligators! Just an example of the developer's lack of attention to detail. A brick wall removes itself brick-by-brick just by you touching some bricks? I love the magic oil that dissolves rust instantaneously. I couldn't find any at Home Depot. The magic inspector is a joke, too. I used to love this series. Too bad it is so bad now.
I have only played the demo so far, but I intend to buy this game. It is not all that difficult - it is just fun to play. I like the creepy story, too. Puzzles and HOS are average, and the HINT button works well. Others have complained about strange placement of objects, but they are par for the course for me. All these games have things like a screwdriver hidden in the middle of a hard-to-open statue, whatever. Artwork, music, etc. are all excellent.
I wonder if other reviewers who rated this game so highly actually played the whole game. I did, and while it started out OK, it slowly, but surely, drifted into ridiculousness and boredom. I should have known that it would when the "hero" was introduced as Victor Snow. Give me a break! There are many things out of place for the time and setting, too. The game is well produced, and game play is good. There is an informative jump map, and you can turn the recharge time down to one second if you wish. The main game ends without an end to the story, a very annoying feature. To make matters worse, the bonus chapter picks up where you left off, but continues with a different story - a ridiculous one at that. Very poorly done. This game is yet another one in the continuing saga of poor CE games where minor effort is put in for twice the price. This game would be OK as a SE, but not as a CE.
As other reviewers pointed out, this game is not all that challenging, but it is fun to play. That is what I look for in a game - fun. If I wanted a challenge, I'd do something else rather than playing games. The game is well produced with good artwork and VOs. The story is interesting if not exactly according to the original Frankenstein script, and it is well told. I liked the game play. It has a good mix of not-too-difficult puzzles and IA HOS. Some of the IA in the HOS are not obvious or informative. There is an informative jump map, and the HINT button works well. You can lock or unlock the inventory and action buttons from view. This game is well worth the SE price.
The production of this game, artwork, music, etc., is the usual for this developer; i.e., it is OK but not super. Good VOs are still lacking. The story is interesting and is fairly well told. Game play is average for the newer games, and the HINT button works well, but it doesn't jump to a location, just keeps pointing in the right direction. There isn't a map, and there is a fair amount of back-and-forth, so it is missed. Now comes the but.... part. There is absolutely nothing (unless you need the SG) that this game has that would lead one to recommend it as a CE. There is very little bling, and the bonus chapter is a joke - very, very bad. It's very short, nonsensical and a complete waste of time. So, I recommend this game, but ONLY as a SE. It seems that more and more developers are making a joke out of the CE versions of their games. They ad very little of real value, but charge twice as much.
This is a well produced, spooky and fun game. Good VOs, artwork and music. The story is really good and kind of sad. Game play is the same for this developer, good HOS and puzzles. The HINT button works well, and there is an informative jump map. There are the usual collectibles and achievements. My only gripe is that the bonus chapter is so short. That and the other extras lead me to recommend this game very highly but only as an SE.
The best thing about this game is it's length . So many games are so short now that they are hardly longer than the demo. The story is OK, but it can get confusing if you don't play it all in one sitting. The production is good with good VOs. My gripe is that there are so many arcade-like puzzles - shoot at a target, etc. Others may like this, but I sure don't, and I could hardly wait for the game to end so I wouldn't have to do any more. There are way too many puzzles for me, too. If that is your cup of tea, then this is the game for you.
I only played the demo, and I couldn't make it through to the end. The story has a interesting premise, but it is very badly told. It isn't meant to be logical seeing as how it is a ghost story, but it is so illogical that it made me sick. It starts with the heroine breaking a car's windshield with the heel of a high-heeled shoe and goes downhill from there. The artwork fits the scenario, I guess, but it is still below average. Game play is the usual, nothing special. There is really nothing to recommend this game, especially at the CE price.
