After playing two 4Friends Games back to back (I just played Mystery Tales: The Other Side) I realized that all their games have really blue hues. I am a little disappointed in the length of this game, although not surprised because 3 or 4 chapters are usually the norm for this dev. Personally, I prefer Collectible and Morphing Objects that are only offered within the CE versions, but really the only extra offered in this game is the hidden Phoenix birds, so because of the length and absence of a long game, I recommend this version over the CE version. Here's a recap of my review to help you decide which version, if either is right for you:
The delicate Lotus flower has long represented spiritualism and religion and is associated with ascension and enlightenment, as it rises from the earth and blooms ever so briefly The White Lotus is known for its beauty and grace, and above all, purity, but the Black Lotus, well that's an entirely different story. The Black Lotus was born out of magic, dark magic that is used to steal one's youth, as it drains their life essence. Once the victim receives this cursed, deadly flower, there's no escaping the inevitable, and when those petals turn completely black, the victim is doomed. Can the power of love be strong enough to break the curse?
The Collector's Edition version has 68 Phoenix birds to find, usually 2 per scene, and there is a pull out tab that will tell you how many remain in each scene. They are very well blended into the scenery and difficult to find, not because of how well they are hidden, but because the graphics are so blurry. The graphics issue was one of my biggest turnoffs with this game, the colors seem faded and whitewashed, blurry and undefined, a huge disappointment. I'm not quite sure what "look" these devs were trying to achieve, I was super impressed with the beginning cutscenes and cover page, only to be utterly disappointed with the graphics moving forward!
The Hidden Object Scenes are actually pretty decent. They are mostly Interactive List finds, but there are several interactive objects. There are also Multiple Silhouetted Shape finds, and scenes where you must find and Replace items.
The Mini Games aren't very creative and they all seem rather easy to solve, not horrible, just not very creative. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Guide pink bubble over clear ones from smallest to largest. 2) Swap tiles to match 2 related tiles in each column. 3) Click 2 lotus flowers to find the matching symbols (rotates) 4) Align the crosshairs over sandbag to shoot an arrow. 5) Swap pie shaped pieces to complete each portrait. 6) Remove all comb teeth by selecting in a correct sequence. 7) Remove 3 or more identical gems until none remain (x3) 8) Choose Attack, Defend or Disarm icons to beat opponent. 9) Swap books to complete the image. 10) Select discs to complete image, click icon to switch day.
The Collector's Edition version has 5 Wallpapers, 13 Concept Art pictures, 4 Screensavers, 6 Music Soundtracks, 17 replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 14 Mini Games and 29 Movie Cutscene Videos, 28 Achievements to earn, 68 hidden Phoenix Birds (to hatch 5 Phoenix Bird Eggs) 4 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter, and a built-in Strategy Guide, enjoy!

By the time the Standard Edition version of a game is released, there are usually several pages of reviews showing on the Collector's Edition version. Almost every HOPA game receives a couple of pages worth of 5-star reviews which push the 4-Star, 3-Star, 2-Star and 1-Star Reviews further down the list, to the second or third page. Therefore, if you see reviews on the first page with 4 or even 3-Stars given, it means most people were in agreement that the game was less than stellar. In this case, not only are 3 and 4-Star reviews still appearing on the first page but 2-Star and even a 1-Star rated review! I think it's a safe bet to assume this game probably isn't worth wasting time on by the majority of HOPA fans. In case you still want to give it a whirl, here's a recap of my review to help you decide which version, if either, is right for you:
Ever get that creepy vibe that somebody's watching you? What if your television was responsible? What if something otherworldly had the ability to use our televisions as a means to visit our world from The Other Side? Those "what if's" may have become what now's, in the town, that a corporation grew a city around. A corporation that coincidentally manufactures cutting edge, technologically advanced televisions! Natalie Stein, a Paranormal Investigator, knew she was in over her head, investigating this strange phenomena solo, so she called for reinforcements from the best....you!
Once again, somebody in the graphics department got a little crazy with the blues and purples. Not just a splash here, a dab there, I'm talking about blue hues on top of purple hues, layered with a few more coats of blue, and a half a gallon of purple...and the other half of it poured on for some final touches. The good news is that all that color goes well with those stupid Glasses. The ones that not only allow you to see the exact glimpse of the exact past event you need, but also allows you to interact with, and use, items that were there in the past, but not the present! Hmf, that's more impressive than the killer TV!
In the Collector's Edition version, there are Morphing Demonic Artifacts, Coins to collect and buy virtual items for your College Yard (huh?) Missing Demonic Grimoires Pages and of course several Missing Note pages that ALWAYS get swept away right from the get-go. Doesn't this lady own a stapler? You can choose whether or not you want an indicator icon for these extra features, in the Custom Setting mode.
The Hidden Object Scenes are varied with Interactive List finds, Keywords in Sentence finds and even finding areas in the scene that match the swatches shown. There is an alternative Match 3 game offered as well in the CE.
The Mini Games are available in an Easy or Hard mode, and on the Custom difficulty mode setting, you can choose one or the other to automatically start out with, but you still get the option to switch it for each individual puzzle. (if you selected Easy mode, the mini-games will automatically appear in the Easy mode, and you'll have to select the Hard mode if you want to change it for a particular puzzle) Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Select lock pins, upper and lower, in the correct sequence. 2) Use arrows to rotate paths and swap gems to colored slots. 3) Swap picture frames to match the silhouetted shapes. 4) Find icons on a map to match keywords (ridiculous path!) 5) Adjust the arms, legs and head positions to match picture. 6) Swap inner and outer puzzle sections to swap. 7) Rotate discs to show correct number of icons through holes 8) Rotate circles to combine images shown on the sides.
The Collector's Edition version has 16 Wallpapers, 14 Concept Art pictures, 5 Music Soundtracks, 19 re-playable Hidden Object Scenes, 19 re-playable Mini Games, 38 Achievements to Earn, 12 Morphing Demonic Cult Artifacts, 108 collectible Coins to buy 11 items for a College Yard (totally makes sense) Missing Note Pages and Demonic Grimoires Pages, 6 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a built in Strategy Guide.

Have you ever played the game Clear It! This is basically the same concept but amped up and incredibly addicting. I was having so much fun, I was utterly disappointed when the demo ended because as luck would have it, there's no SE sale today and I used up all my PCC's!
If you haven't played games like this, it's pretty simple, you shoot the colored orbs located along the parameters at the same colored orbs inside the playing field until all of them have been destroyed. In the Clear It games, multi-colors aren't added as quickly as this and they don't have all the obstacles and bonus orbs like they do in this game.
OBSTRUCTIONS *Locks-first match unlocks, the second match destroys. *Fog-matching nearby clears the fog patches. *Glass-direct blows to break the glass and expose orbs within. *Portals-orbs will portal to another area. *Arrows-redirects moving orbs. *Hand- stops moving orbs. *Wooden Crates-blocks tiles, direct hit destroys. *Armored Crates-must be hit on unprotected side. *Stone Walls-can only be destroyed with bonuses.
BONUSES (tiles morph briefly) *Explosives-include in a match to detonate the bomb. *Rockets-hit with any tile to remove 3 random orbs. *Lightning-destroys all of the same color orbs when matched.
ANTI-BONUSES (avoid!) *Orb Anti-Bonus-when hit by orb will add random orbs to field. *Lock Anti-Bonus-randomly places locks on orbs when hit.

Abandoned at the doorstep of the orphanage when she was just a baby, Jane had only a few clues to search for her father, a casino chip from The House of Azara, and a torn card. Strangely, the Azara casino has re-opened its doors for the first time in 25 years, and Jane knows this is the time to search for answers. The answers don't come easily, however, when Jane realizes she's just entered a life or death tournament. Will this bet pay off, or pay out?
This is a fantastic game with a really cool and somewhat original storyline, but it is similar to Deck of Fates. There is a gimmicky Casino Lens feature where you scan the room for unseeable objects the naked eye can't see. I could do without that feature, but it's not too intrusive, There's another gimmicky feature of Cards that somehow give you special powers such as strength. You get the cards from the poor unfortunate players that lost the game, and each card is related to their personality traits. Your sidekick is an adorable Corgi and I kinda liked him! There are 50 Hidden Joker's Scepters to find in this CE version, usually two per scene.
The Hidden Object Scenes are mostly Interactive List finds, but they are located in interesting places and the objects are well blended. There are also Keywords in sentence finds and technically the Casino Chip lens games are more of a HOP than a mini-game puzzle. There are no alternative games offered.
The Mini-Games are creative, unique, and most are downright fun, however, they are all gambling-related with cards, dice and casino chips, so if you don't like gambling, even virtually, you may want to pass on this game. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Slide cards to correct slots by dragging them along tracks. 2) Drag lines through matching symbols to remove all tiles. 3) Drag tokens to correct slots. 4) Use directional arrows to place all 4 tokens in the middle. 5) Scan room with Casino Chip to find symbols shown. 6) Rotate and place dominoes to match values on the board. 7) Adjust levers to complete the image. 8) Choose sturdy rope segments, niches & crystals to climb. 9) Choose any dice to fill 4 slots before your opponent. 10) Reach a score of 20 or higher to beat the dealer.
This Collector's Edition Version has 6 Wallpapers, 15 Concept Art pictures, 4 Screensavers, 6 Music Soundtracks, 35 Movie Cutscene Videos, 11 re-playable Hidden Object Scenes, 14 re-playable Mini-Games, 15 Achievements to earn, 50 Hidden Joker's Scepters, 3 Main Chapters + Bonus Chapter and a built-in Strategy Guide, enjoy!

I love how they were able to mix fantasy with reality and include famous well-known characters in this newest release from Orchid Games, Modern Tales! Emily Patterson is her dad's right-hand man, her go-to guy (wait a minute, leading lady?) at the Science Exposition in Paris. She's helping dad, Brian Patterson, prepare his presentation for his latest invention, an Energy Emitter when havoc ensues. Her father has just become the latest victim of a kidnapping plot of leading scientists in the technology field. Emily is left on her own to investigate her father's kidnapping when all roads seem to lead to a powerful and influential member of society, Alexandre d' Albignac (a real person btw)
This is a pretty decent game! The graphics are fairly decent, and the storyline is fairly original. You'll recognize familiar names such as Alexander Grahm Bell and you'll even get to buy the very first Porsche made, and it's a really fast car lol. I was a bit confused when the demo ended with 40 minutes to spare because this is a very long game containing 7 decent sized chapters! Unless you purchase the game, you won't have access to ANY bonus content, you don't even get to see what the content is, so for that reason alone, I'm only giving the game 4 stars! In this Collector's Edition version, each scene has a hidden Atom that will unlock a secret of some sort.
The Hidden Object Scenes are a little on the scarce side with only two offered within the demo, but then again the demo is extremely short! The first HOP is an Interactive List find the second is a really well done Interactive Progressive Silhouetted Shape find. There are no alternative games offered.
The Mini Games are interesting, some of which are unique, but the directions could be better. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Place cards correctly to activate the interactions. 2) Connect cables to the sockets in the correct sequence.
This Collector's Edition version has 8 Wallpaper Backgrounds, 8 Concept Art pictures, 5 Music Soundtracks, 8 Movie Video Cutscenes, 8 re-playable Hidden Object Scenes, 8 re-playable Mini Games, 24 Achievements to earn, 30 Hidden Atom Signs, 7 Main Chapters + Bonus Chapter (Secrets of the Monastery) and a built-in Strategy Guide, enjoy!

In the first Zombie Solitaire, the infamous Tofu Burger had created a Zombie Virus known as Z1. After surviving all the zombie attacks, you finally made your way to a remote island, seemingly unaffected. As luck would have it, someone snuck in a Tofu Burger, forcing you to flee the island to make your way through thousands of hungry zombies. Rumors were circulating amongst the survivor's, that citizens were being rescued if you could just make it to the safety of the helicopter landing site, a mere 100 levels away. But this is a Zombie Apocalypse, and of course, the helicopter crashed, leaving you completely vulnerable to all those bwain lovin' zombies! Chapter 3 opens and you are recovering in a hospital, dazed and confused.....but not yet a bwain eating Zombie, so the saga continues!
Zombie Solitaire is a Higher/Lower type Solitaire game where you try to make large chains of cards either one higher or one lower than the last card. You will earn coins for each card played, as the coins "fall out" of them and bounce below. I love this feature, however, you can opt out of the bouncy coins within the option settings. Large chains will fill the Combo Meter to earn more points. There is a Star Meter on the top left, that shows how many cards need to be removed for each of the 3 available Stars, and for every level you complete with 3 Stars earned, you will be awarded an extra Undo. There is even an icon that tells you how many deck cards remain, a must-have feature!
You can use the coins earned to purchase Bonus Cards in the Shop, Number specific cards, and Wildcard Jokers. There are only 3 slots available at any given time for either the Zombie Slap which removes 1 card, the Zombie killer which shoots 2 cards off the board, the Zombie Blaster which removes an entire row of cards, or the Joker Wildcard which is especially helpful when on a large combo streak. You can earn Sticker Achievements as you progress and once you collect all of the Stickers in a category, you'll be rewarded with extra coins.
There are obstacle cards that require you to first uncover the tool card to unblock them. The Bird Deterrent card releases pesky Infected Bird cards, the Machete Card chops through the Jungle Cards, and the Bolt Cutter cards will remove Chained Cards. You can replay any level if you aren't satisfied with the score you received.
One of my favorite features in this game was Making Choices along the way. You will come across different choice options, which can sideline your own goals, such as choosing whether or not to help another human in need. You can continue your journey of survival without helping someone, or opt to do the right thing which doesn't necessarily have a favorable outcome, you may have to give up all your coins, all of your wildcards or even both! After a few levels, you can play Mini Games and Hidden Object/Fragment Scenes. The Match 3 game is available in Casual or Normal limited moves mode, but in the casual mode, you can only win 1 star vs. up to 3 in normal mode. The goal is to give the Zombies shown, the type of candy they desire by making matches of those specified candies. I found the Match 3 games to be somewhat difficult to earn all 3 stars in Normal mode, but you can replay the Match 3 levels as often as necessary until you earn 3 stars. They have added a new Match 3 version where Zombies move towards you from right to left with the desired candy choices shown beneath them. You have to click on the candy combinations they desire in sequence, and then choose the correct Zombie to give the candy to, but if they reach the line before they get their candy, you're a goner!

I'm not a huge fan of Chain type Match 3 games, but it kinda works for this game. It could be a bit more challenging because it's fairly easy to make large chains but on the other hand, I suppose it makes for a more relaxing game. The goal is to reach the buried Treasure Chest by making chains of elements to dig through the ground.
The longer the chain, the bigger the explosion! You can make small chains of elements containing at least 2 identical elements which will destroy the ground tile if matched adjacent to it. Matches of 5 or more create an explosion starting with a small bomb, the larger the chain is, the larger the explosion is, all the way up to a nuclear bomb! The radius of the explosion is shown before you release the chain so you'll know exactly what will be affected by the subsequent explosion. Chains can be made vertically, horizontally, diagonally or any combination within.
You start the game at the top of the board and work your way down, but some levels go from left to right, or take sharp turns, starting in one direction and then up, right, left etc. You must break all of the ground tiles above the line, as you do, the line moves and more of the board is exposed. Before the start of each level, the entire board is shown as a reference, but it doesn't really matter where the Chest is, because you still have to destroy all ground tiles.
There are different kinds of ground tiles, some just require an adjacent match, others require explosions and some require a nuclear explosion to destroy. If you destroy Fuses they will ignite the barrels which also explode, however, if you eliminate the Fuse without an explosion, the barrels won't explode.
Of course, this game isn't going to be everybody's cup of T......NT, but I thoroughly enjoyed playing this unique Match 3 game. For me, it gave making matches a purpose, there's a reason to keep making matches. There seem to only be 25 different levels total, but don't let that deter you, because each level is extremely long, in fact, I think I only made it to about the beginning of the third level during the demo. I definitely plan on using a PCC today to buy this game, and I'm certain it will be my go-to game for relaxation for quite some time, happy Treasure Hunting :)

In a nutshell, you need to clear all of the hexagons with the exception of the white ones which can be jumped on without disappearing. Gray tiles will turn black the first time you land on it and disappears the second time you land on it. All available jump moves are highlighted, and you can jump one tile or two tiles. As you progress, more hex colors are added, and the gaps between the hex tiles widen and the patterns become more complex.
This is one of those games that requires you to click the replay button to restart the level, several times because you'll rarely solve it on the first attempt!
For me personally, this is one of those games that just becomes frustrating, and by the eighth or ninth level, I grew weary of re-playing the levels over and over, to find the correct pattern. If you like problem-solving games and don't mind having to restart the levels over and over, this is the perfect game for you!

For those of you who aren't familiar with my reviews, I play the Collector's Edition demo when it's released but I wait for a good sale before purchasing it, Then I wait patiently for the release of the Standard Edition and play that demo as well. After finishing the SE demo, I return to the CE to finish up the game, which allows me to refresh my memory of the storyline and compare the two versions side by side. I only gave this game 4 stars because I was disappointed that Blue Tea had returned (which is a good thing) and they included all the features that made this series epic...but they didn't go the extra mile to include the non-linear feature of the Cursed Objects :(and that's a bad thing) Here's a recap of my review to help you decide which version, if either, is right for you:
The Salt Princess has finally come home, unaware that her beautiful kingdom of Grak fell over a hundred years ago! Her father banished her from the kingdom until she could learn to control her powers of summoning Dragonflies that turn anything they touch into salt! Now that she has returned, those very powers that exiled her, are now weakening her, leaving her vulnerable against Daemon Evoker Clan. Why is the Clan doing everything in their power to capture the Princess of a Kingdom that no longer exists?
The reason I only gave this game 4 stars on the CE review was that Blue Tea went to such great lengths to make this Dark Parable game like the original BUT they didn't go the extra mile to make the Cursed Objects like they were in the original games. (yes, there are 20 normal Cursed Objects in the CE version) In the original DP games, objects didn't morph the first time you entered the room. They were non-linear games that required some kind of trigger in an entirely different scene, and the beauty of it was, you never knew which action triggered which morph! This added a whole new challenge, like an Easter Egg hunt, you could literally pick up an item or solve a puzzle in the 6th location, and discover that the very first scene had a Cursed Morphing Object triggered that wasn't there before! I don't blame BT for this, I blame the producers, and there's no doubt in my mind that this topic was heavily battled, and simply lost by the little guy in the ring. Not to mention that, if BT were to put these awesome "triggered" morphs into this game, it would have topped the charts, and how would that have looked? The first 7 games were by BT, games 8-13 were by the same devs that are now the producer for this the 14th game (think about it!)
The Princess has returned, and so has Blue Tea, the original creators of Dark Parables! If you haven't played any of the games in this series, you may be put off by some of the features, or lack thereof, but Blue Tea created some very unique features back in the day, and in the Collector's Edition version, you'll get to enjoy 2 of the most unique features made famous by them. The Hidden Object Scenes are FROG's, this is where you are tasked with finding fragmented objects, that are shown as pictures in three different sections of the inventory bar. Once all fragments have been found in each of the sections, the 3 fragments join together to create a single inventory item. You would think that finding bright and shiny fragments in a scene would be super simple, but you may be surprised, and personally, I love FROG's! You will also come across several Parable collectibles which allows you to read (or listen to) a short Parable story once all 4 parables have been collected. There are 5 Parables including The Moon Prophecy, The Untold Story of the Frog Prince and of course story of the Salt Princess. The CE version also has 20 Cursed Objects, which I complained about earlier, I love the morphs offered, I just wanted them to be like they were originally.
The Collector's Edition version has 12 Wallpapers, 24 beautifully illustrated Concept Art drawings, 5 Music Soundtracks, 6 Movie Cutscenes, 9 re-playable Puzzles, 26 Achievements to earn, 28 collectible Parables for 5 different stories + 2 in Bonus, 20 Cursed Objects, 6 Main Chapters + Bonus Chapter (Moonlight Romance) and a built-in Strategy Guide, enjoy!

Another cursed island, another banshee, another plot involving a scorned, falsely accused maid? More symbols and runes than one can count, another stupid gadget Amulet that requires finding crystals for each and every ritual, which you just happen to come across all over the island? (with repetitive mini-game with even more symbols and runes) Do any of these developers even try to come up with something different? Can they at least consort with each other to make sure the same storyline is repeated within 2 days of each other? I'm sorry for being a negative Nelly, a Debbie Downer, a Melancholy Molly, a Horrible Harriet, a Bitter Betty, a Pouty Penny, a Moaning Myrtle...or a Screaming Banshee, but don't we deserve something different? Something fresh and exciting, the kind of game that has you glued to the chair? It's not because I'm bored with playing these games in general. If that were true, then why do I still enjoy dusting off some of my older games that I've played several times over the years?
Unfortunately, we have an Amulet Gadget to say "boo" and scare away the Cursed Objects. (and somebody has a vivid imagination when it comes to these cursed objects) In this Collector's Edition version, there are Morphing Objects that aren't difficult to spot, but certainly more hidden than the collectible Pumpkin/Gourds are. These cursed Jack-O-Lanterns are large and gaudy and stick out like a sore thumb! In the collectibles section, you can read the descriptions of each of the pumpkins.
The Hidden Object Scenes are fairly basic and have no alternate puzzles available. There are Interactive List finds, Multiple Item finds and Progressive Interactive HO's available.
The Mini Games are so simplistic that their directions usually consist of one sentence. They aren't very creative, and the Amulet mini-games of finding rune symbols is annoying. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Decorate the cake according to the recipe. 2) Select the rune that isn't displayed on the left. 3) Use cipher to translate and select correct symbols to type. 4) Repeat the sequence of symbols. 5) Find the dice in a game of "cups" 6) Choose correct items pertaining to the story on the gate. 7) Move the Horse in an L shape to cover entire chess board. 8) Use rotation arrows to swap triangle-shaped puzzle pieces. 9) Set the compass coordinates on the map.
This Collector's Edition version has 17 Wallpapers, 12 Concept Art pictures, 12 Music Soundtracks, replayable Movie Videos, 10 re-playable Hidden Object Scenes, 29 re-playable Mini Games, 10 Skill-based and 21 Story-based Achievements to earn, 10 Morphing Objects, 12 Collectible Pumpkin/Gourds (with descriptions) 3 Main Chapters + Bonus Chapter and a built-in Strategy Guide.
