I have been waiting and waiting for this to come out since I beta tested it. The story line is excellent, the graphics are as good as they get, the puzzles were clever. I know that I haven't played the whole release yet, but the beta was so spectacular that I am diving right in. I strongly encourage everyone to try the demo and see if this doesn't look like just the sort of jump start to these that we have been waiting for. ( and contrary to popular opinion, I LIKE St. G!)
I was kind of excited to see this on a $2.99 special, it sounded cute and these are fun for a change of pace. But ugh, I got through 2 puzzles and had to let it go. Maybe for a beginner, but the handholding was irritating. If you are looking for a challenge, pass this one up, there are plenty of other Griddlers that will give you what you are looking for. So far, the Halloween one is the best!
This may be a 4 year old game, but it holds up very well. The graphics are good, the puzzles are challenging, the story is excellent. I need to check out some of the others. This was a good length as well with several new areas to explore. The map is a huge plus, I have started skipping games without jumping maps just because they get tedious. No worries here!
so that I don't get any more of them! I don't know what it is about this series, but I really, really dislike it. And I like most of what I have played from Mad Head Games. In the first place, they seem to like a gimmick, this time it is an amulet. Which is fine, I have liked plenty of those, the cameras, the alchemy kit, etc, but could this be any more boring? I don't think so. The same game play, time after time. And it has zero challenge.
Speaking of which, all of the games were so easy. I could not believe how little effort that 85% of them took. The dialogue is slow and clunky, the story board games were childish. Absolutely no challenge to this game, unless you count the challenge that I had staying alert enough to finish it. And believe you me, I could not wait to be done. This is the 2nd Shadowplay game that I played and I loathed them both.
I could almost recommend this for beginners, but I would not want to turn them off the genre! This is a hard no from me going forward.
I had high hopes, but they were dashed. This is one of those disconnected games, where you want to be engaged with other characters and your surroundings, but you never really feel immersed. There isn't enough background to feel part of, you have the spots you interact with, and that is it. The characters give you their dialogue, but you never really feel a part of them. The story is weak. The games and HOPs are amazingly simple and the game feels like it is about an hour, if that. I know that it has chapters, but it really just feels like one long, run on sentence. I cannot give this even half of a thumbs up.
Other than the very last mini game, which is the type that I hate and I admit that I am probably in the minority, this is an excellent addition to the series. I like the ones that feature SG, and it is always great when he gets his comeuppance. I love watching him stomp around. Good graphics, I like the vintage feel. Great story line, I am sad that I didn't get the CE version, that is my only regret on this one.
Or what I was hoping for. I really like this series, but this one was lukewarm. It was very, very short for one thing. And really easy. I may be in the minority here, but I like puzzles as much as HOPs, (maybe even more), and these were too easy and not many of them. Not a bad game, but one for beginners really.
This was a rather short game, I enjoyed it overall but there are a few blips there. The dialogue was mismatched, that could be a language thing and overall wasn't too distracting. Of more consequence was the mismatched to the storyline, at one time they say that there is one more apple, but you know darn well there are two. There were a few instances like that, don't want to give too much away. And again, not hard to get around.
The biggest downside was the games. The HOGs were okay, no complaint there, but the mini games were only 3 types really. And not very challenging. I am not a fan of having to move a ball through a tunnel without hitting the sides, that was used a lot! It just isn't much of a game to me. The other is the small, only one object to find 5 times game, those are wayyyy too easy. And there were several of those too. A couple others, go through the catacombs, steer a ship, match the symbols, those are okay.
So overall, a pleasant enough way to while away a couple of hours, but I would suggest getting it as a special or with a coupon.
this would have been a 5 star review. I loved that there were different games in there, I like that there is a mix of HOPs and puzzles, I loved the storyline., I like the Redemption series. But, and this is a big one, that ending absolutely sucked! Not that it was a bad ending, not that it was a good ending, that is was a cheap cop out ending that gave no closure whatsoever. In fact, it was like there was a whole story and final game missing. Okay, I have enough of an imagination and storytelling ability that I can fix one up for myself, but that is not what we are here for. So, I recommend the game except for that one thing.
I did enjoy playing the game, even though there are a few holes in the story. Why...........no, I won't put any spoilers in. However, I do have to say that the ending is lacking. It just suddenly ends. I hate when they do that, give me some closure!
