I loved this game. The heavens parted, choir of angels sang, then a cloud threatened the nice scene, but we will get to the cloud later. (OK not quite but you get my feelings!)
Elephant continues to push themselves and the results are worth it. It truly is an A grade HOPA. Best game yet from them and one of my top 3 all time favourite HOPA. It even gets better as you go along.
The graphics were really well done. I didn’t like real people in 13skull because of the way it was done, here it was well integrated, (although the lip synch was way off and was off putting).
They brought us back the integrated transporter map and I love them for it. What is even more amazing is that each chapter is completely self-contained and quite vast, and you have a new transporter map each chapter and each chapter is completely different (you don’t revisit scenes from previous chapters)
We have had kidnapping before but not in this sci-fi setting and how it was done is different.
I played on the middle of 3 choice of settings (as I like the option to skip puzzles if I need to) so I had no sparkles including hidden object scenes and no random click penalty. The puzzles were very well done and some were unique and took me a good time to play some of them as they were quite hard– excellent. I'd say the puzzles were between medium and hard for a HOPA.
There are a lot of options in setting up, which you don’t often see.
The hint button – SE players will especially love as it sort of is a mini strategy guide. I did appreciate it but wish there was another option to not have spoilers but see if you have missed anything in a scene.
Each chapter took me roughly 2 hrs each even using the hints and only looking at walkthrough a couple of times. If you play this with sparkles or with a walkthrough, or skip puzzles, obviously gameplay will be much shorter.
The cloud – hidden object scenes, they were junk pile. Oh why elephant when you push yourself so far in every other area you fall short in this one, it marred the beauty of this game. The saving point of the hidden object scenes, were the crystal clear graphics and the great twist on them – you need an inventory item on something in each scene. You don’t repeat them and no random click penalty (yeah!)
The villain is like a comic book villain (think of the movies like superman etc) and that is good as the game doesn’t feel like a ‘dark’ game.
SE play – 8hrs. (usually a SE would take me 5-6hrs.)
The story concludes 100% here in the SE version.
Some reviewers have said there are red flowers to collect in this SE version game – not so, so don’t go looking for them!
I recommend this game!

mmm, on one side this is different and refreshing but on the other it's a bit of the same. I'll do a pro and con list to help explain.
pro
- How the characters move in the story makes it more integrated, it was well done.
-trying to do a mystery but I was disappointed at the end, and I can't say why as it would be a major spoiler.
- good length
-puzzles were both pro and con, nothing new but were between easy and a couple of medium, and they were well spaced.
-voiceovers (but I didn't have any at the beginning or end)
-mystery, plot was trying to do something new, which was refreshing
-mostly non junk pile hidden object scenes
cons
- game starts with wrecked car, then old house, where you are trapped. And a lot of the same HOPA cliques that we see a lot.
-ending
-setting said no sparkles I got them on hidden object scenes.
overall very enjoyable, but with pushing it a bit being different in some areas, I wish they did that in all the areas. (BTW I have a snake phobia and was petrified I would be made to find a snake, I wasn't!)
I recommend this game!

I agree with the other excellent review. I loved this game. I am a romantic, so I loved the location and learning a bit more about Venice. I loved learning some basic Italian with sound cues so I could hear what the words sound like and there was a well done, fun, minigame testing you on it.
Getting around -There is no car to get to different places (good) but a great choice (it’s all auto done) in gondola rides with wonderful singing – lovely touch.
There is a good variety of places to visit and people but you aren’t back and forth too much for conversations which I found refreshing. The plot is very well done (although at the very end there was one bit I was a bit disappointed in) You are undercover again, but at least this time you are a tourist, and you are helping the police to uncover who and what is behind stolen items throughout the city.
The puzzles were varied and well spaced. The game is sort of non linear but there are a few things that you need to do to trigger something else and then other locations open up.
There is no clock but even though you aren’t told, you go to bed a couple of times to further the story.
It’s just excellently done and a lot of time and thought has gone into this one, compared with some others. It was a pleasure from start to finish. And I love the newer interface, it’s less intrusive.
ABOUT SOME OF THE MAIN PUZZLES (so don’t read if you don’t want to know)–
At the end there was a long head scratching water puzzle and sort of a maze as well.
I don’t know what the name of it is, but if you don’t like those puzzles that are 1d, and you move from square to square to avoid the moving sirens/lights/sentry then you won’t like this game. As there is a long series of these. I do, and I found it to be the most challenging and well thought out, that I have come across.
Dance puzzle – an easier version of ‘dance’ video games – click on the right icon when you hear or see the related cue
Scopa – A card game, I don’t know if it is a made up card game but it was quite different, and nicely more complex than some I have seen. Really enjoyed it.
TO GET CASH –
I don’t want to do spoilers but there is 3 different ways (one of them was in the crystal skull) so if you don’t like one you can try for the other two.
I am stopping saying ‘this is now my favourite’ in my review title as it seems as each ND game I am playing, I have a new favourite. But can I say here that this is?
I am now trying to play the ND games in order of release.
In order of my personal preference – (I only do this to show you my taste to help you decide yourself, I know you probably won't agree)
1) Phantom of venice
2) Creature of kapua cave
3) White wolf of icicle creek (tied 2nd)
4) Last train to blue moon canyon (I love loads of small puzzles which is why this is 4th)
5) Trail of the twister (although shorter, and less variety of location than others)
6) Legend of the crystal skull
7)Secret of the old clock (I like puzzles and there was more variety than other games)
8) danger by design (it’s more adventure)
9) Ghost dogs of moon lake (although the graphics and adventure side was better)
10) Danger deception island
11) Message in a haunted mansion
I recommend this game!

This is what I call a filler game. A easy, lighthearted game that you play between large file games, or dark IHOGS when you just want something quick, very easy, light and fun.
Even though this is a fairly recent game, don't expect a modern HOPA it's not or you will be greatly disappointed. It plays and feels like the old type hidden object games, which mostly didn't have junk pile scenes but more cluttered scenes. Although the graphics are nice.
There is an interactive/transporter map although there aren't that many places to visit.
plot was simple but I really enjoyed it.
I love those type of graphics (not the cut scenes) it's just adds to the feeling of lightheartenedness and fun.
Although I don't know if I would recommend it for young chidren even though it is easy, as someone had been murdered (but you don't see anything) and I know some people don't like anything re occult, this does have a few references sprinkled about.
Although saying all that I would put it in the cheery category, it just is.
The hint button replenshies quickly, the sparkles are faint. There is no choice of settings of hardness.
The puzzles are very easy, and you do have to repeat hidden object scenes. But maybe it was the graphics of some of the scenes as although I usually don't like straight hidden object scenes, because they weren't really junk pile and had clear graphics - I enjoyed them.
It is super short - I would say a 2-3hr game. 2hrs or maybe less if you are a really quick gamer (I'm not)
My personal opinion is don't buy this at full price. But if it comes up as a DD and knowing all this information, then it's worth a look or If you have loads of punchcard credits needing to be used up.
Maybe when I played it was the right time, between harder large file games and I wanted a quick brain relaxer, it made me enjoy it. Certainly not a very good game but I did find it enjoyable. (I gave it 4 stars as the 4 stars said 'liked it')
other easy filler games I recommend (more so than this) is 1 penguin 100 cases, and avenue flo adventure games (not the TM)

My favourite ND game so far had been white wolf (the next game in the series to this one) but this has the edge (check out my other reviews if you want to know the games I am comparing it to).
It is better re adventure and different locations. Like the The White Wolf of Icicle Creek, the whole game feels cohesive, from the feel of the whole game, to the adventure side and this plot has different threads going through it which was good.
Some ND games have excellent puzzles but the adventure side is lacking, or something else, here it’s a really nice mix (some more smaller puzzles would have been great!)
You are on a working holiday in Hawaii, helping out a scientist who studies insects and plant life (don’t worry you don’t see any insects or spiders etc). You find out that the Hardy boys are there also but are on a different case. The game switches between playing as Nancy and the hardy boys at different times in the game when you phone each other.
There is an excellent variety of places to visit. I like how you have to find the co-ordinates to move around from place to place.
The interactions – adventure side was excellent, (maybe some would call them minigames but I would put them in the adventure category) – snorkelling was fun (I so wanted to be there!), in the greenhouse was well done, all the interactions in the cave at the end was excellent.
There always seems to be a theme which you learn about in ND games. Here it is mainly about plants and general information about Hawaii (which I guess is correct) that side was really interesting.
There usually is one puzzle in these games that are long and is a bit hair pulling, here it was the separating and correlating etc of the samples. It wasn’t as hard as some of the main puzzle in other games but it was very involved, it was really well done but I just wanted it to finish.
In big mike’s building –
Wiki tiki game didn’t like
Other game in arcade which isn’t a game as you just pay and click to learn about different things
Two games that you do to earn money -
I think the fishing was well done, as I guess it’s like that in real life, I just didn’t like tying up bait everytime, and this minigame made me realise I made a good choice in having never gone fishing!
I couldn’t get enough different shells to make any other of the choices of necklace except one. And I did keep going back to find shells and later in game when 2nd area opened up to get more choice of shells, I still couldn’t get enough variety to make a different necklace.
For the variety of different locations, well done integration of switching between characters - giving added depth to a plot, I give it between a A and an A-.
To get an A – A+ they needed to (IMO)-
Have had slightly more smaller puzzles
Cut back on the back and forth re that one long puzzle (as there was so many mouse clicks to go back and forth when you were in the jungle)
Recorded all the information you need in your journal so you don’t need to write things down (all ND games are like this)
I still got music most of the time, even though I had the option turned off
I recommend this game!

BLAM made this game. It seems they usually do TM games and this is their first HOPA. Which makes this game even more remarkable.
This game was so near to getting an ‘A’ rating from me which is rare and how irritating it is that I can’t give it!
I do not have a widescreen laptop and yet I still got black side bars.
About the only modern HOPA game that has done this, I thought that was absolute and a minimum for a modern game to have no black bars! (and I do have my nvidia panel set to stretch games and tried everything!)
Leaving that aside the hidden object scenes (bar two junk scenes – why did they have to be there?) were the best hidden object scenes that I can remember in a game and not very easy. They were the best integrated in a scene, and mostly not junk pile. (Although they had the usual random click penalty which is annoying.)
The puzzles were for once in a game a nice hardness for a HOPA, enough to be challenging and take your time over. It was well done the adventure interactions, and all the graphics were really sharp and didn’t have that awful soft wash on them which I hate in some games
The plot was standard fare but didn’t interrupt too much which was good but when it did it really was excellently done – nice mild sacredness factor. I like it when I can ignore the novel/diary and it doesn’t glow as I don’t need
it.
There was a choice of 3 settings and in the bonus!
I played no sparkles, don't skip puzzles (but like the choice to do so) and it was a good length. I’m not a very fast player
I must point out that for the first time in any HOPA game (even escape from ravenhearst - latest MCF game I had none!) I had a few tech problems. My whole computer shut down in the middle of the game a few times and most of the time when I was trying to get out of a scene my whole screen went black for a few seconds (not the skull and diary), that never happens. It did remember where I was. So would urge the new DEVS to try and not make a game as much of a hog (sorry about the pun!) next time. (yes I am full updated)
SE - 5 hrs
If I could have had this game play full screen for me, I'd give it a higher mark and 5 stars for graphics.
As is, a very good B+ game for having mostly excellent hidden object scenes and not super easy puzzles.
I recommend this game!

This is supposed to be the sequel to my favourite game here at BF - dracula origin. If you haven't played that then don't think dracula origin is anything like this because it's not. I so wanted a good sequel and got a completely different game (like azada in libro). But again putting that aside this is a good game.
Instead of playing Professor Helsing you play Dracula. So you are on the outlook for blood. Your choice with this matters as it will change the story at the end and that is unique and good.
For those fishies that have played Hound of the Baskervilles (same developers) this gameplay is the same as the hound of the Baskervilles. Including the ability modes, map of achievements.
There was 2 modes of play - hard doesn't have sparkles. I played on the hard/advanced mode.
Didn't like the accents on the voice overs.
There was an interactive map (transporter map) click to go to area and it also told you if there was tasks to complete in an area.
When you have done everything in an area there is also "location complete".
Puzzles The mini puzzles were good though mostly non -original, (one sort of original) not hard, and skipable. And there were plenty and if you don't skip them it should be a long game.
I really enjoyed hound of baskervilles and I do really enjoy this. BUT I LOVED the first Dracula game, it's humour, uniqueness and this didn't have the same humour. I think it is trying to appeal to a wider audience of gamers - those that love IHOGs. (It's just a B+ game and not an A+ game which I was hoping for)
LENGTH
There is 6 chapters plus a bonus chapter. First chapter took me exactly one hour on hard mode and no skipping puzzles or using hints. - overall took me 5 hrs with 2 skips in puzzles.
for your info BONUS in CE -
Bonus took me nearly 2 hrs. - Completely different area than the main game, different puzzles, good length. And like the Baskervilles game, unlocked all H0 scenes, puzzles (although no new ones).
If you are wondering if you should buy the CE for once the length is good. and the puzzles and H0 scenes are unlocked in the CE
If you just want the SE then this will still please as the story of bonus is a sideline and the SE is complete.
I recommend this game!

I recommend this game!

Overall not very good. The variety of places to visit was good, some of the interactions were good. But the rest left me a bit cold.
Some ND games have loads of puzzles in them but sadly this wasn’t one of them. All ND games I have played have a couple of minigames that you can replay as much as you want, but the computer one – match faces was boring and the other one was hangman (yes really!)
Puzzles
– a fair bit of decoding, end puzzle.
- Usual (seen before) make food, this time it’s parfaits.
But others it was just following a recipe or putting in a code that is in your journal but as usual with ND games you have to write it down in a bit of paper which is annoying. But they were few puzzles and far between.
Adventure side,-
there was an underwater maze which was good. I like that it wasn’t mostly in a old home which a fair amount of ND games have been. But lack of puzzles and variety of them really let this game down.
There isn’t any clock or things you have to do on a certain time or day which was good, but you do have to go to bed.
But at least the interface wasn't surrounding the whole screen, just got the bit at the bottom, although still too intrusive.
And the plot wasn’t as good as others. I really liked the ending re plot, great idea. And I liked the plot re a dead character, who has left clues which you follow in the game. But the apparently main plot, which you are employed to do, find out about Minnet and her behaviour and the rest of characters that go with it, was farfetched and didn’t grab me.
If you like more of an adventure with ND games and not so much the puzzles and you are a ND game fan then I would say you might like it. It just wasn’t consistently interesting enough for me or got enough puzzles in it.
(I rate myself an intermediate with ND games but not with LF games)

Overall enjoyable game. This isn't one of the games with a theme, throughout. Give you a list of pros and cons so you can figure out your own taste.
pros
-plot but it wasn't the best - the mystery had nothing to do with people involved so compared with others is why I gave it the rating I did.
-variety of puzzles
-no clock in game
-more variety of places than in some games - train then you make two stops so you have two places to explore in one place and a mine.
-end 'minigame' adventure I love doing that
cons
- interface, although it does take up slighlty less room than the old clock game.
-backtracking down the train, it took loads of clicks just to get to one end of the carriages, and most of one carriage you don't go into. Also you have to exit and enter each carriage very time consuming.
-Don't want to give away too much but it is a bit obvious re plot side.
-in the general store there are two games that are pure random, one I was ages at (the yeti) very annoying. If it could have been made some skill in it, it would have been fun.
- don't get why the hardy boys are there, didn't really help
Good length, good variety, if the interface was gone and like the modern ones, and the plot integrated the characters better, I'd have preferred it. But it was very enjoyable and would give it a B+.
Nancy drew games I have played and the order I enjoyed them: (so you can see my taste)
1)White wolf of icicle creek
2)last train to blue moon canyon
3) Trail of the twister (although shorter and less variety than others)
4) Legend of the crystal skull (but great adventure and graphics)
5)Secret of the old clock (I like puzzles and there was more variety than other games)
6) Ghost dogs of moon lake (although the graphics and adventure side was better)
7) Danger deception island
8) Message in a haunted mansion
I recommend this game!
