Hmm...I like the vampire genre. However, this series has been a bit of a miss for me. So I gave it a chance because I like the genre and thought the series might improve. I have to say if I had bought the standard edition, I probably would have rated this game 4 stars. I did enjoy playing it. It had a lot of variety with its puzzles & hidden object scenes which I like. I can't stand when devs do the same style hidden object scene over and over the entire game as I get bored of them so I liked the variety. I find it hard though to get the achievement for finishing the hidden object scenes in less than 30 seconds or without mistakes because they are so lengthy but Id rather have the interest with the game mechanics than with gimmicks like achievements or finding morphs etc
I used to think a great CE meant lots of collectibles to find, achievements galore and all that extra fluff they give you. I do like that you can replay the hidden object scenes and if you missed a morph along the way you can collect it to still get that achievement. I don't like and I in fact HATE the fact that even after completing the main game, you can't access a lot of the extras. Since I paid for this game, I expect to be able to use all the extras when I want to. I found the bonus chapter to be a yawner and don't care to finish. This meant I could not watch the "making of" which is one of my favorite parts of Eipix games. Their "making of" section makes me laugh and its always interesting but I don't get to see it this time. There are also other areas you cannot enter. Boo Hiss.
Collectibles did not make this game better. Yes, they are black roses. Most are very easy to spot, some others require you to move things to access them but still easy. There are pumpkins to find too which was a surprise for me. They light up like jack o lanterns. I quite liked these. The roses & achievements go into the bonus chapter which I liked. Eipix didn't used to do this before and I am glad they listened.
The plot of this game is all over the place and the lacking atmosphere made the game lackluster and unexciting. And although we get an actual ending, it could have been so much better~!
IF you like vampire stories & you like this series this may be a win for you. Its definitely not an awful game by any means. I am more miffed that I cannot access the extras I want until finishing the bonus game and I do NOT like that at all. What a waste of money.
Also, since this is set in the swamps of Mississippi, I really expected it to be creepy but it wasn't. Wish the devs would have put a bit more time into developing the story and atmosphere but overall I did enjoy the hidden object scenes and puzzles so I would have to recommend as a standard edition. There are way better CEs out there and this one is just not worth the extra money even with a good sale~!
After re-reading and proof reading my review, I noticed how much it seems I dislike this game even though I say somewhere I would give it 4 stars as a standard edition so maybe I should explain. A lot of games I start, I don't finish and they just sit on my desktop for ages until one day I either delete them or try again to get through them (usually without success). I kept opening this game and playing it so I liked it enough to go back for seconds and thirds. There are elements of it that I don't like but I did enjoy the time I spent playing it. Therefore I will recommend it because I am sure there are people out there like me that love the game-play of some games but hate the plot just like there are games out there that I love the plot but cannot stand the game-play.
I usually don't do reviews on games I don't finish but I can't finish this game because its so bad. I am a huge fan of this series. The 2nd one in the series is one of my all time favorite games and Orneon in general make fantastic games that are always original so I don't know how this game got so far off mark.
I assume this is the pink and purple graphic thing most people talk about in their reviews. There is a lot of it in this game. Usually this series takes us places that are really interesting and creepy. I love the shade effect and how its something not done in other games. It gives this series an edge. However, its not utilized in this game like other games. It doesn't quite even make sense to what you are doing. Flower of the Shadow? Doesn't make any sense and is not a compelling story line at all. The characters have not drawn me in at all and Im like 3/4 of the way done.
Despite a terrible plot line, my main beef with this game is lack of being fun. I decided in the beginning that although I disliked the plot Id give this game a good go because Orneon games are fun in my opinion. This game isn't fun. The puzzles started out fun but have gotten less so as time has gone on. The achievements are mostly game related so you'll get them no matter what. The best part of this game are the hidden object scenes and Orneon is the first dev who gave us put back the misplaced objects so I love that part of the game. But a few hidden object scenes can't save this game.
I am doing repetitive tasks with the gadget you get. The game you play each time makes you need a certain code and to get it you have to push buttons on either side that either go up a few or down a few. So far I have just pushed them randomly and gotten the answers. Usually orneon puzzles get harder as you go on but not this game.
There are flowers you collect and morphing objects but they are too easy and you can only get the morph when you see it so if you click the place it was and its not there, you have to wait til it morphs again and its a slow morph. The flowers are in plain view.
I really think I am about to finish the game but I don't want to play anymore. I am bored. Its been awhile since I've been bored by a game. Usually if I don't like a game its because its too easy or the plot line is wack or helpers which you have one in this game for people who don't like helpers. But my main issue for this game is boredom. I can't finish it. I don't want to finish it. I couldn't care less about the bonus game. I don't even care what I am doing in the main game. Even if I dock some games for the easiness of it, sometimes those are still fun games but not this one.
I see by the reviews that I am not the only one disillusioned by this game. This game saddens me. A good developer can have a bad game once in a while but when you take what was once a great series and totally muck it up like this, its hard to have faith that the next one will be up to par. Please devs take note and fix this for next time. I look forward to enjoying my favorite series again.
For the first time in a long time, I would have liked more hidden object scenes in this game because they were the only fun part. Had there been more, I might have finished it because the only time I had fun was during those scenes. I do not recommend.
I don't recommend this game.

Nightmares from the Deep: Davy Jones Collector's Edition
Escape the cold incarceration of Davy Jones' brig and discover the otherworldly origins of his galleon in this thrilling Hidden Object adventure.
This game is by one of the best game developers, in my opinion of course! Their games are so life-like, voice-overs are wonderfully done, the small things are there like when you touch things on the screen they react playfully. The music is very fitting and they always have incredible story lines and this game is no exception.
I have to say that I have loved every minute of this series. Each of them are so life-like in their graphics. I remember playing the first one and the golem on the chest was so real and at that time, it was a stand out because games weren't really like that however this dev set the bar high and still does. This game has a brilliant story line. In an era where we keep getting the same games over and over again and badly done at that, this game gives you something new. I really didn't see the series going in the direction this game did and I liked it a lot. I don't usually give out 5 star ratings so when I give them, it is GREAT game!!
The hidden object scenes are interactive, puzzles are a good difficulty at least most of them were. None were so easy they insulted my intelligence level like some games but none were so tricky that I couldn't do them. A good mix where I didn't get bored and want to skip them. You can do mahjong if you don't like hidden object scenes. Only thing is, in some of the scenes, I couldn't find the last object and not wanting to use hints, I'd switch to mahjong. I expected the mahjong board to diminish as I got the objects but it doesn't so you will have to do the whole board even with 1 object to go. Also, if you are trying to get the achievements, after doing the mahjong 3 times for it, if you keep doing it, you will not get the achievements for playing hidden object games with no hint. I did this and I didn't get that achievement boo.
That being said, there are a multitude of achievements, some rather interesting and others I have never seen before like interacting with the animals in the game. There are 3 different collectibles to find all within the main game. I was able to find all the puzzle pieces but the seahorses & pirate cards eluded me. And here I thought they would be easy to spot. HAHA
This is a lengthy game as it took me 3-4 days to finish playing 2-3 hours at a time. I took my time though, did all the puzzles, watched all the cut scenes, immersed myself in the story line and listened to all the voices and made sure to try and get all achievements although I missed a few. oh well.
The main game ends okay but you really do need the bonus chapter for the game to have the same charm. I usually hate when developers do that but for a great game like this, I won't downgrade it. The bonus chapter throws a bit of a twist in there but it was still fun to play which says a lot since I usually don't finish bonus games because I get bored. This one held my interest and wrapped up the questions I had about the main game. Had I bought the standard edition I would have had a lot of unanswered questions.
I am pretty sure this series ended here as it wrapped up loose ends and had no cliffhanger ending. I enjoyed this series immensely and am glad it stopped before it started churning out junky games just to keep the series going. COUGHersCOUGH
What I love most about this game are the pirates. They are a wild bunch, have the best accents and you get to interact with them. One you even get to play a board game with and it was a hoot! LOVED IT! They say such silly things if you keep clicking on them past the first time. Love all the attention to detail devs. Kudos! Please keep making more series as I just love your games!
oh BLAM games! how I love thee. Not only are their games extremely well made with absolutely stunning graphics to boot but everything is so colorful! And the voice overs are fantastic! Puzzles are always tweaked to be somewhat original & I love their interactive hidden object scenes.
This series is fantastic as I loved the first one just as much. I would have given 5 stars if I had bought the standard edition because the game itself is a 5 star game. Great story line and although done before, had no idea what it was really about til it was almost over so it was told quite well. It had a gimmick thing that you make jewels with only fitting since the game is all about jewels. You also collected light beams with it. I didn't really get why you did that but it made the game more interesting. Only thing I didn't care for was the helper and you have to name him! But he's an ermine & you get an achievement for using him 5 times and whole game you only use him 6 times so he really wasn't a bother. I really don't like helpers but since they were a fad for awhile I get why he was here. Like the game so much anyways that I don't care he was there.
Only reason for 4 stars over 5 is the bonus chapter kind of bored me. It was a bonus, did not add anything else to the story and was a separate case involving gems. The main game ends with a real ending and closes all loose ties. The achievements are the usual fare & you have 25? I think Masks to find throughout the game & bonus chapter. I personally did not need all the fluff because the game was so good. I stopped looking for the masks even though they were pretty easy to spot. I liked the game so much I didn't even care about extras. Thats how you know you got a great game.
What I also love about this game is the music! It was done so well and fitting for where they are and what you are doing. I can't wait for the next installment in this series which has just come out! A lovely game.
I recommend the CE if you love all the extra fluff but its not needed with a game this fun so if you can live without finding things & a bonus chapter, the standard edition would be the way to go. Kudos devs! Always a pleasure playing your games!
I usually don't do reviews if I haven't finished a game but I beta tested this one & think I can provide a pretty good stab at it anyway.
In my notes for the beta, I wrote that I LOVED the puzzle aspect of the game and I still do. It has really interesting hidden object scenes that are quite out of the box. It has quite intriguing puzzles that aren't exactly challenging but still unique. I also wrote that it was laggy, ran slow and held your hand a bit too much and all of that still rings true.
The laggy & slowness might be my computer as it doesn't always behave how I'd like it to. But the hand holding is something that really irks me. This game doesn't have a choice of difficulty. Its all or nothing. The hidden object scenes do sparkle but besides that there isn't too much twinkling going on. However, the game tells you where to go and what to do. There are arrows pointing you to and from locations and they light up if you need to leave a location. The game also tells you to go home and rest.
The go home and rest part is where this game really falls apart for me. The rest of the game is wandering around this town and trying to figure out the reason behind the kids disappearances. However the beginning of the game has nothing to do with this angle. Also, when you go home to rest, you start dreaming and enter this bizarre dream world where you must help each child out of their nightmare to save them. Even though I have played this plot line before, this one is really confusing since the game drags you in and out of dreams and into the real world. The dragging into the real world makes no sense to the actual dream world though as the beginning scene makes no sense to the entire game.
This game has the potential to be a knockout though because of the out of the box hidden object scenes & puzzles. IF as much attention to detail was put in the graphics, plot line, and really the rest of the game as was put into the puzzles & hidden object scenes, this game would be hard to compete with. However, we have a game that has poor graphics, a slow lag effect that happened in both the beta & now the actual game and a bizarre and hard to follow plot line and its not something I want to keep playing.
I feel torn though because I would keep playing just to experience the out of the box thinking this game has to it but the overall experience of the rest of the game makes it so hard to stick with it. I know this review sounds weird but upon playing the demo, I think most people will understand what I mean. I so wish there had at least been a choice of difficulty levels because at least then it might have been more bearable but a game that tells you where to go and what to do is taking away the thinking part and I like to think about what I am going to do next & where I am going to go.
I cannot recommend this game in its current state. I so hoped that after the beta some of the ideas I had would be incorporated but sadly it seems that they were overlooked and what could have been a stand out game became just another save your money game.
Okay, I really liked this game during the demo time, in fact it surprised me as last years MCF was absolutely dreadful. Actually, I haven't really liked a MCF game since The 13th Skull which I always see people hated. I happened to love it except for the fact you can't change the difficulty setting & it had sparkles but I digress...
I liked the beginning of this game as it felt spooky and the atmosphere was there like the old games in this series. I remember Return To Ravenhearst being the HARDEST game ever, since I was a newbie to hidden object games back then and that one just plain stumped me but I loved it and finishing it made me feel so accomplished... So I thought this one was going to go a good way for once and it did for awhile but then like always the story line started to fall apart.
The story line is really important in MCF games because if its a great story, the creepy factor, music, graphics help it become more than most games are. In the first hour or so I liked the story and thought hey thats clever! But alas no its the same old thing again and with no explanation to how it happened or why it was happening and actually I didn't quite care about it anyway!
There are hidden object scenes and not the long drawn out ones Eipix normally has but ones that belong in an MCF game. There are morphs in the scenes. There are also 34 ravens or harbingers as they are called. It really was not hard to find any of these objects.
The bonus stuff is the usual fare of a bonus game, music, art, re-playable hidden object scenes & puzzles, a souvenir room (never found out what that was) and achievements like find 4 objects in 8 seconds etc etc
I finished the main game in about 3.5 hours. I hoped it would have a twist yet it did not and about 1.5 hours in the developers got lazy because the story unraveled from there and I lost interest quick. There is an ending in the standard edition and had I waited for that one, I probably would have given it 4 stars. Part of the 3 star rating is the bonus chapter. WHAT A YAWNER! Had nothing to do with "the house that love built" or anything else. It was set in an asylum and I lasted about 20 minutes before my eyes glazed over and I had, had enough.
There used to be a time when MCF games were ahead of the pack. I used to get excited to play them and each game had a new aspect of gaming to it. Ever since it got passed off to other developers, it really took a turn for the worse. I thought Madame Fate from Elephant was really good at first too but halfway through it became tedious and boring. Im starting to think maybe this series should just end. To even interest buyers, the companies are trying to do sequels on games that have no need to be rebooted like the pitiful Dire Grove remake of last year. Its kind of like how hollywood can't come up with new movie ideas so they are remaking every single movie or creating sequels for things that were made in the early 90s like Mallrats. Is there really a reason to make a Mallrats 2? Is there really a reason to keep bringing back old games? Can't anyone create something out of the box that is brand new?
I think my initial excitement about this game was revisiting the game I loved so much ages ago but once that novelty ran out, it just became another cookie cutter, no challenge, game that isn't what this series used to be about. Yes you can customize the heck out of it and make it without contextual pointers like in the original games but without a good story line, it becomes boring & stale.
Instead of passing this game off to a different developer every year, either take it back BFG and give it the love it deserves or just can it. The demo is very deceiving in this game because it makes it seem amazing when it reality its the same format as every other game and has nothing new to really wow the audience.
I never quite liked the real actors except for 13th skull. The acting & voice-overs in Shadow Lake were awful! and I usually like that actress! If you want to revisit Ravenhearst, go back into your game collection and download the ones in the series you already have. Every time I replay one of those games, I find something new that I didn't realize the first time and I've played them tons of times! There is nothing special about this game & that's the problem.
The only thing I really liked about this game were the sound effects. Strange I know. When finding objects in scenes, the sound was the same as Return To Ravenhearst where it sounded like a typewriter and it made me smile remembering how much I loved THAT game. The soundtrack was also done very well and the cutscenes were pretty impressive especially the one where you see the "key".
I think some will love this game and others like me who have played a ridiculous number of games will see through the so called plot line and see this game for what it really is...Cookie Cutter, Formulaic and Same Ol...Its a shame really as I would love to fall back in love with this series...
This game really surprised me! From the screen shots and other reviews, I thought it seemed outdated but I had such a good time playing it! I have never heard of the developers but this is a really good stand alone standard edition, enough to warrant paying full price for :)
So the story line is same ol. Your father was looking for something and once his brother finds out what it is, he goes along for the ride. Brother comes back but without your father and you go track him down years later. Turns out the brother is the least of your problems. The story although done before was quite interesting because you find these memory disks along the way that plug into machines and they tell the story of what happened years ago during the quest. It was kind of predictable but it was well told and kept my attention. I loved finding the little disks and I love when developers do things like this because it gives a game dimension instead of just reading blurbs in a journal so kudos!
The hidden object scenes are mildly interactive but I really enjoyed them for some reason. Some items are well hid which I like and not just random junk piles. The puzzles could have been harder but there were a good variety. You also are collecting life stones and there are 20 of them and they are small so good thing they are colored.
The game wraps up completely in the standard edition. I saw this as a platinum edition on another site so can't comment on what the extras are or anything. Extras are really not needed for this game anyway.
This is definitely what I call a filler game. What that means is, Collector Editions, Adventure Games etc take awhile to play and are the meat & potatoes of gaming. Then there are little games like this, appetizers so to say that fill in the gap where you want to play a game but aren't looking for a epic adventure. This game fills the niche perfectly. If they keep making good games, I will buy them! Kudos devs!
I recommend this game!

Haunted Legends: The Stone Guest Collector's Edition
Someone is stealing the hearts of children – literally! Is it a brilliant inventor, seeking to cure his ailing son? Or has dark magic taken over the village...
This game as a CE is the pits. There are very few achievements (most story related), no collectibles, the game is rather short and the extras include bonus chapter, replaying hidden object scenes & puzzles, musical soundtrack and screen saver. Had I bought this game as a standard edition I would have rated it 4 stars as I had fun playing it, more so than I thought I would but the lacking extras cost it a star.
ERS games are hit & miss for me. Some I like others I hate. I do like the haunted legends series but besides the weird dwarf guy SG (who now talks), nothing links this to the other ones. This game felt like a mix between Elephants Lord of The Statues & BLAM's Dog Heart game. Its not original by any sense of the word but I did enjoy the overall game.
The hidden object scenes are a nice blend of different kinds. Its mostly the usual interactive fare but there a few out of the box ones I liked. The puzzles is where this game really falls for me. They are soooo easy like move one piece and it automatically finishes. Some of the puzzles have the option of hard mode but they were super simple too. I didn't notice any difference when I would switch them over. Sometimes I like easier mini games but not when every mini game is easy. Its no challenge whatsoever and I don't like that.
Now the overall story line was pretty good and I wish they didn't lob it into the haunted legends series because it could have been a good standalone game. The best part of this game in my opinion is banishing the voodoo like dolls. This was something extra that was like a hidden object scene but was very creative. You also have a magnifying glass that finds objects which I really didn't find useful or understand why we had it. Also there is a bunch of gems, hearts & potions you collect during the game. They are not collectibles because they are needed to finish the game. I found it all kind of pointless to be honest.
The main game ends satisfactorily in my opinion. Its a little abrupt but at least you know what happened. I could only play about 20 minutes of the bonus chapter because it was boring. The main game took me like 2.5 hours and that was not skipping any puzzles.
As much as I liked playing this game, the flaws outweighed the pros. Therefore I cannot give more than 3 stars and I do recommend this game as a standard edition if you want a game that isn't taxing on the mind or you are a beginner. However I cannot recommend the the Collector's Edition because there is nothing special about it.
Deep in the heart of an enchanted forest, a forbidden love blooms. Guide the human Eveline as she sets out to rescue her beloved from the clutches of a tyrant.
My rating is based on almost finishing the game. I was in the maze so right near the end and my computer crashed and I lost all my game data and had to start over. This happened twice during my time playing it. The first time I wasn't very far into the game so I opted to start over however this time, I couldn't stand the thought of doing it all again even though its a good game.
The best part of this game is the fact its an adventure game. There are not hidden object scenes unless you count finding 10x of this sporadically for potions. These scenes are more like puzzles. The other great thing about this game is making potions. I really really liked this aspect of the game because it was interactive and you get to cut up, slice, grate, liquify and stir the ingredients. There are over 10 different potions you get to create.
The developer also designed this game with excellence in the small details. All the graphics were interactive. If you touched a flower, it moved and sparkled. If you touched animals/insects, they scurried around. When you pick up an item, it leaves a trail of glitter that looked kind of like leaves. I thought of them as pixie dust. This made the game really stand out in an atmospheric way. It gave the game something extra that made it special. However these great graphics also slowed down the game and made the custom cursor a bit jerky and made other actions not so smooth. I was able to keep the custom cursor as I hate turning them off but it did affect the overall pace of the game. This game is also a huge file because of the spectacular graphics. I think this is why my computer had such issues with it because my laptop is not a gaming computer and it overloaded. Most games it plays just fine but this game is different because of all the attention to the smallest of details.
The only part of this game I disliked was the plot. It was kind of a star crossed lovers, romeo & juliet type plot but instead of the usual vampire/human, it was Felize's (cat people) and a human girl (or is she?). This makes the game really really cheesy. Way cheesier than others in this genre for some reason. I will say the voiceovers are crazy good though. You could feel the emotion they have for each other because it wasn't just the monotone garbage we usually hear. Their voices were full of emotions. Fear, love for one another and desperation.
I would probably rate this game 3.5 stars for the cheesy storyline but I am rounding up due to its glorious graphics, voiceovers and atmosphere and for the fact its an ADVENTURE game and not a million hidden object scenes. The adventure aspect makes this game out of the box unlike the hundreds of others we see that bore me to death. I also give high marks for the attention to detail and for having some original puzzles. I overall liked this game. I just wish my game data hadn't been corrupted for a second time because I really would have loved to finish and play the bonus chapter. I do believe though that I shall return to this game at some point when I feel like giving it another chance or maybe buy a better laptop. Cheers Devs! More like this please!
You came to the town of Brownville, Louisiana hoping to find a new job. But you weren't expecting to stumble upon a strange adventure in a world filled with beauty and danger!
So here we have a BLAM! games game and I do adore most of their games however this one I am not sure if I liked it or not and I have completely finished the game. I would probably rate this 3.5 stars but I just can't round up to 4 stars so its a 3 star rating but on the higher side...
Let's start with the basics: You have a magical helper that you have to name. He appears in your inventory map and when you hover over him, it shows the name you picked. He's also purple and can fly. The puzzles in this game are too easy. Sad because Blam usually does so well with their mini games. The story line was just like the movie Jumanji but instead of a board game, you have cards. These cards give you super powers along the way but the game always tells you when you need to use them because a flying card starts circulating an area. I played in hard mode & I wished that I could figure it out myself when it needed to be played. Especially since you don't get any clues that you need to use your helper and you need him a lot but I'd always forget I had him so it was sort of challenging not knowing where to use him and I liked that!
The hidden objects scenes are mildly interactive. You have to do one thing to get the items listed in green. All the other items you can spot easily. No challenge here.
The game wraps up completely in the main game so kudos for that. The bonus is not necessary and I only played about 30 minutes of it before getting bored.
There are 30 puzzle pieces to find to build this mega puzzle in the extras. This might be the hardest part of the game. I only could find 12. They are very well blended in! I like challenges though so I didn't mind but I also didn't get them all either. There are 4 modes including a custom mode.
When I demoed this game a long time ago, I remember thinking it was all kinds of fun. What a great concept to be stuck in a game! But then as the plot goes on, it becomes really dumb. Why would you invite your friend to come to this town knowing full well what would happen? And he never apologizes for asking you to come! LOL
I LOVED the movie Jumanji...and this game is similar but the difference is Jumanji was great for its time. It had all these crazy big animals, things that could kill you running out of the game board and just utter chaos. This game is mundane and nothing interesting happens in these other worlds. The only one that really wowed me was the upside down twisted world. That was a cool premise and it the rest of the game had been that intuitive then I would have rated it higher.
Also the voice-overs were pretty monotone for finding out your are trapped in a game!
As much as I'd like to recommend this game for its great graphics, soundtrack and the twisted upside down world, Id rather just watch Jumanji because its way more entertaining and has the late Robin Williams as the boy stuck in the board. So do yourself a favor & just watch the movie with me, save yourself the money on this one.
