Your friend, Mary, disappears and it's up to you to save her. Uncover an exotic land with unearthly secrets as you find and help your friend leave the flying island.
I liked this game, definitely a SE, very short! Glad I used a coupon for it. Too bad the developers didn't do more and make a CE out of it. All the games and FROGs are fairly easy, and you've seen all the minigames before. LOVED that there were no human "actors" and just turned off the sound to avoid the music and voiceovers. Really nice artwork, reminiscent of Dream Chronicles. a fun game!
Ah, another Twisted Lands game! So delightfully unique and creepy. The developers did a good job of linking the 3 games together. And THANK YOU THANK YOU for NOT following the trend of using( minimally talented) human actors Good hidden object scenes, puzzles, a couple of new activities that could have been used more, but overall excellent fun. Just wish they had released it as a CE.
Definitely for kids. It's like watching the commercials between cartoons on Saturday morning, overly bright colors, artwork that belongs in a child's fairy tale book. It's complete with some kitschy owl companion that makes bad puns. So glad I'm not diabetic or I would have needed more insulin to play even the 15 min I played. Couldn't take anymore. Puzzles are super easy, I played on whatever they titled the expert mode. A 10 yr old girl would probably like the music and voices, but I found them incredibly annoying.
Probably the worst video games actors I've ever seen, from the "vampire" to the "gangsters" to "the boatman" to everyone. I'm convinced this developer is dedicated to churning out games as fast as possible, and uses untalented human actors to substitute for intricate artwork. A small mercy I could at least turn off the voices. The puzzles were so easy as to be insulting, played on advanced first to see black box comments, but they were so leading that I switched to hardcore for the rest of the game. Not a fan of the violence, I prefer my horror to be creepy rather than overtly violent. Premise was good, hidden object scenes varied, but overall just average, but then again it's my fault for expecting more from this developer.
Love the unique plot, good HOS, fairly good minigames, good ending, love the dog, nice to have a map to make moving around easier, love that I can turn off voices... but.....
1. Have the developers ever been in a hospital? Apparently in their world critically ill patients wear their own clothes, are cared for by a single nurse from the 1950s with 1950's equipment, and are treated for respiratory arrest by a simple oxygen mask.
2. WHY WHY WHY include the apallingly untalented human actors? I'm convinced developers do this for 2 reasons: it saves on artwork and they have a girlfriend/daughter/relative/friend who wants to be a movie star. Especially disappointing when the artwork in this game is sooo good, wish they had stuck to that. 3. Hardcore mode is not very hard, to have any challenge you must ignore the leads in the black boxes (which you can't turn off) "the sand is hard I need a rake" " the cage is locked I'll have to saw it open". ugh.
Also several technical problems, I got caught in the endless loop crystal ball minigame like many others, and had to switch modes to exit it.
I still recommend this game, it is a nice change in plot and I had fun playing it.
Did they dig this game up from 10 yrs ago or something? It's an insult to anyone who's played a few games, and to Jane Austen. Played 10 min of demo and that's all for me! You don't need hints, the areas in which to act are highlighted, you get a shadow of what you need to find. In sum there is no challenge and very crude graphics. Skip this one!
This game gets high marks for having many puzzles, and being a generous length. There is a lot to do and explore, you have to travel all over the area (might have been nice to have a map so you could jump to far areas). I played hardcore mode, liked that you had to hunt for HOS. Did not read the journal or the black box comments as they were too full of unwanted hints. Pretty good graphics, but not really scary or creepy at all (this is a minus for me). Had enough fun that I will forgive the pathetic "repeat the sequence" boss battle with the witch. Downsides were that there were no instructions for the games, so I sometimes had to check the SG for the instructions. Also, PLEASE developers give us a way to turn off voices! The voiceovers were so annoying, esp the little kid voice, had to keep turning my sound off and on to avoid them. But worth the money, really deserves 4.5 stars.
Really would have liked to give 3.5 stars, liked this game, but dislike any game that hurts animals, so that tempered my enthusiasm. HOS pretty good, but puzzles too easy. At least the story made sense and flowed, unlike so many other CE's lately. I would definitely try this developer's next game.
Another average game from this developer whose motto must be "quantity not quality". Game is a decent length, and HOG scenes are varied, but unfortunately lead you by the hand in the "shadow HOGs" and both HOG scenes and puzzles are scarce. DO NOT read the diary if you want any challenge whatsoever. It leads you shamelessly, even on hardcore mode. Speaking of the diary, at the beginning of the game you are told the maid found a diary outlining 3 murders. Well of course these developers couldn't be bothered to actually give us the diary to read, we are lucky to get a few paragraphs. The story is so disjointed it barely makes a plot. The bonus chapter does little to help. This game is not scary in the least, despite the title. Good things: length, ability to turn off voices, varied HOG scenes, having to get money to buy things you need. The cat, hamster, and dog are cute. MINOR PLOT SPOILER Boos to the developer for hurting the dog- but don't worry he survives. I've lowered my expectations for this developer's games, and are enjoying them more because of it. Just don't expect an MCF level of gameplay, and buy it on sale like I did.
wanted to love this game, but too many tedious things that take away from the fun . For instance, if I have to use a tool to do something, let me just do it once. I hate having to use a shovel multiple times to dig a stupid hole, especially when it goes back to your inventory and you have to bring it out again each time. Also, oh boy I get to collect coins to buy sketches of the game? Worthless. If I collect coins, I should be able to buy things that enhance the game or get me farther in it.
ABSOLUTELY loved the mystic-goth artwork of "Belle", that probably got my hopes too high for this game.
Still, decent length, decent HOG scenes, not enough puzzles and not enough challenge. On the fence if it's worth the CE price, maybe for beginners, not for experts.
