This game is so ridiculously cheesy, it's laughable. And then of course we get the warnings about "intended for mature audiences" which I have no idea what they are about. The graphics are just plain bad. The VO's have no "excitement," even in key scenes. Then to add the black icing on this burnt cake, we have a story that is absolutely ridiculous. I honestly don't know what has happened to these games the past few months. It's just plain depressing how bad they've become.
Sorry but I would give this game 0 stars if I could. I think you'd have to go back about 7 years to find a adventure game this badly done. I guess everyone is different but I absolutely don't understand how anyone could give this game 5 stars. The opening cutscene alone was just a series of sketches. Really? That's what these games have been reduced to? I uninstalled it in less than 5 mins of play. I STRONGLY suggest a trial before buying!
I got this game with a coupon and it took all the effort I could muster to complete it. Everything is like a badly done cartoon..the mini-games, the cut-scenes. I'm seriously beginning to wonder if Mad Head and BFG have forgotten that well-done cut scenes and game intro help to set the mood and move the story forward. Without that, you are just solving a collection of puzzles of HOGs. It has been a while now since I found any games to actually buy on BFG. A few years ago that was NEVER the case.
This game is a "high-end" adventure game. The developer, Microids, has been making these types of games for two decades, including the Syberia series. It's really well-done but takes a very long time to finish and is a TRUE adventure game. I highly recommend this game but be warned that there is very little hand holding and don't expect to finish the game in a day or two (unless you are playing around the clock). As an aside, at one time, BFG was beginning to make games closer to this type, but then it switched ownership and that put and end to that direction. Unfortunate, for us hardcore adventurers. I tend to give lower ratings to most BFG games these days. Once you play this game, you will understand why I do that. There simply is no comparison between this and the more cartoonish graphics in most games these days. Give this a try. I think you will like it.
I can't believe all of the 5 star reviews for this game. I must have higher game standards than most. This game was very poorly done in terms of graphics, cut-scenes and game play. I'm growing increasingly disappointed in nearly all BFG games these days. The across-the-board drop in quality has resulted in no CE purchases for me in quite some time, including this one. If I wanted cartoonish graphics I would go watch a cartoon rather than play these games.
I typically like games in this series but this game bored me silly. As other reviewers have said, the speech is very slow and far too frequent. I suspect this is to increase the apparent length of the game. Puzzles seemed to be on the extremes...either difficult or no challenge at all. Graphics quality of all cut scenes were done very cheaply and poorly. It seems all BFG games these days are getting shorter, done with decreasing quality, and becoming very cookie cutter.
Elephant Games is typically my favorite developer but the graphics quality of this game is ridiculous. It's nothing more than a cartoon. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. I'll be passing on this purchase. While I realize that this is an ongoing free to play game that many love, this particular iteration is just plain BAD...IMHO.
Elephant Games has always been my favorite developer. I almost always buy their games without a trial first. That proved to be a big mistake this time. I don't know what happened but the characters and cut-scenes in this game are absolutely awful. They are done like a kid's fairy tale instead of a Grim Tales story. Further, the female voice-overs are equally bad. Seeing as how game quality keeps tumbling across the board on BFG, I'm pretty much done with buying CEs. I'll just wait for the SE and a good sale from here on out.
This game was mediocre at best for me. The cut-scenes and moving graphics are pathetic though. I don't know what happened to this developer. They used to do a really good job in those areas, but not any longer. Further, with such a small download size, I doubt there is more than an hour and half of gameplay. I'll likely wait for the SE on this one or use a coupon. As always, I suggest trialing before buying.
I'm not usually a big fan of Eipix games because of fuzzy graphics on larger screens. That said, they did a very nice job on this game and the fuzziness issue seems to be much less of an issue also. (Think that is due to the darker tones). They also seem to have reverted to their previous type of graphics (Yay!) At any rate, the story was engaging and the puzzles were medium to difficult in complexity. More like this EIPIX!
