Based on demo only:
Well, the game is definitely mixed genre. There is absolutely no hand holding other than information screens indicating what the controls and icons mean in both adventure and match 3 so you will have to 'solve' how to get around as well as the actual mystery within the game until a walkthrough comes out.
The graphics were very lovely and the music was appropriate for a mystery and pleasant for the M3, being very soft and meditative. The M3 had two challenge modes, relaxed or timed.
Overall, this is a very different and interesting little game and a definite buy for me. I generally don't even enjoy M3 games, yet the whole mix was a great balance so I ended up actually enjoying the M3 as well as the adventure.
I probably would only give it a 4 or 4.5 star review, yet since I haven't actually finished it, I'm giving it the benefit of a doubt.
Definitely worth at least giving it a whirl. :)
I recommend this game!

The premise of adapting classics into gaming is awesome, yet I was quite disappointed when I played the demo and discovered very simplistic gameplay.... (yet don't agree with 1 and 2 star ratings... it deserves a bit higher in all fairness, IMO ).
The pop up character interaction aspect as it is, is just SO unappealing and doesn't do the game justice. So much effort apparently was put into the gorgeous beginning live cut scene and H0G scenes settings yet the balance of the game is beyond basic gameplay features in every way.
If only developers would utilize the awesome graphics and SFX potential in today's world that appear in recent popular [negative] game themes and design them aroound classics such as Jane Austen or some of the other classics... then we'd have some real gaming hits.
I hope this won't end the attempt at bringing us "light and airy" themed games, lol, and is only a beginning to greater and bigger attempts. ;)

I thouroughly enjoyed the Demo and am probably going to purchase this very creatively, well designed game. It had spooky/ chilling aspects yet didn't step over the line and I would give it a 4.5 if there was that option.
Mystic Diary is more of an adventure than a H0G which is fine with me as I prefer adventure any day; with that, the storyline and actions are equally important as the goal. As far as high tech graphics, bells and whistles, well, you won't find much of that... as with any good adventure, the impact of the game itself is partially determined within the mind and imagination of the gamer and, therefore, doesn't need them. Just as a really good book doesn't need pictures or a great silent film does'nt need words.... it stands on the quality of the production/s.
Definitely worth checking out... I also enjoyed the first stories by the same developer.

When I began playing I thought YUCK what ugly graphics... BUT WAIT~!!.... once into the storyline (strong point in the game) you feel for the homely little guy who lost his homely sheep to mean baddies!!
There IS a learning curve for those out there that are unfamiliar with this type of game. Be patient with yourself and the game... once you catch on, it will be quite enjoyable!
I do hope the game is longer than the demo because I completed the demo with more than 40 of 60 minutes to go and that was including getting up for coffee.
The customers won't take the bottled drinks at varying points within the game; other than that, it could have gone up one notch on graphic design.
I thought it had great potential and was fun for in between other games... would definitely purchase if not for the glitchy bug.
Hopefully they will fix it or make a Golden Heart 2 and beef things up a bit.... upgrading choices with money earned would be fun... ie. creating more of an atmosphere with furnishings and equipment used.

So glad we are offered a game with humor and mythical whimsy, versus skulls, skeletal remains, demons and hexes... yet I believe it could have been one step lighter and brighter with eliminating some of the snow scenes and adding more color. In addition, why do devs assume we all enjoy the macbre... this game was one step towards a nice, brighter game play yet reportedly there are witches etc in the bonus... since I do not find it appealing to participate in occult scenerios in games, I wish that hadn't felt a need to incorporate darkness into an otherwise folk/fairytale-ish game.. if not for that, it would have been a 'buy' for me. I will probably buy it as a SE but will not pay for the added content of dark arts.
The plot was also very choppy and did not flow well, though the addition of the gnome was insigtful and enjoyable to utilize in trying to decipher the thrust of of story's agenda.
Thank you, devs, for offering a 'better' game without overt creepy, grim and dismal gameplay.... a refreshing change of pace for sure.

Based on the demo thus far, I've decided to purchase... clear graphics, unique twist to the H0G's and fairly decent mini games along with a story that offers a winningly upbeat feel albeit a 'mystery' theme.
Nice to play a mystery genre w/o the the 'as per usual' doom/gloom and or distasteful, occult inclusions thrown in, at least not thus far as I have played.
Yay, a game I probably won't regret purchasing nor one that will sit on my virtual game shelf half played. :)

FINALLY! A good mystery!!! If you want something that is intriquing and fun but not too dark and ugly, definitely check this out.
This was a fun adventure mystery with some H0 puzzles thrown in... it was not 'easy' nor was it difficult, it was simply 'different' than the generic game that is 'as per usual' and therefore I believe the ratings were not as high as they should be here. There is no 'hint' button so you are on your own to figure things out and that's the way I like my games. Victorian Mysterys: The Yellow Room was a GREAT GAME and I've been gaming for more than 25 years so I have quite a few to compare it to.
I'd give it 10 stars if I could and hope there will be more like it in the NEAR future from BFG. So, encore, encore devs, give us more of these, please!
Having been discouraged by the influx of recent very 'dark' themes in the genre I tend to love, adventure / H0, I decided to give TM's a try.
This one is super excellent. The characters are charming, the gameplay is intuitive and flows wonderfully. I find myself playing long after my intentions... in other words, it can be addictive #in a good way#. I even went back and bought the earlier editions as well.
So if every cloud has a silver lining, I guess this game is just that... lots of fun and so adorable!
