Even if you've never seen or read Sweeney Todd... from the original 1920's movie based on the original play or one of the more recent versions, you'll undoubtedly appreciate the the game play value in being in the detective role in this surprisingly good game spin-off (if you can take the gruesomeness with a grain of salt, so to speak, haha#.
Anyhoo, as the story goes, the barber #Sweeney Todd# and the charming baker #some say a true tale) shared a common feature in their respective shop cellars... a passageway and a hankering for a relationship with each other. The two collaberate whereas the barber robs unsuspecting rich fellows coming in from the ships from the harbor and the baker 'disposes' of the poor deceased patrons by making meat pies for her shop. Win-win... well, more like win-win-lose taking into account the unfortunate dearly departed who get more than just a shave.
So, I thought the graphics were excellent in this game... true to the time period and the SFX/music and characters, everything... all really good from beginning to end. Definite replay value as well.

An excellent Nancy Drew game that takes you away from the mainstream stress of everyday life into a little cottage/cabin in the quiet, tranquil woods owned by a friend of the family who recently purchased it... or IS it all that??
If you want to call it a vacation?! Afterall you will have no access to a car to get away in, only a motor boat to travel with the option of travel by foot to escape in a large expanse of wilderness and in addition, you will have to be concerned about having all the supplies you need, and whether the water may be tainted, AND there is a chance you will be killed, or frightened to death... but, through it all, hey, remember.... you can do it and it's a paid vacation, afterall!!!
So... just exactly WHO or WHAT is behind all the terrorizing and exactly who or what can you trust in your immediate vacinity OR even those from the past during your stay?!!
Will YOU be able to find out while unraveling this mystery and will you be surprised as to just who/what ends up to be the culprit.... or will you be KILLED!!??? YOU will have to play to find out !!!!...... Bwaahaahaaa.
This game is 'different' and I mean that in a good way.... Mystic Diary... plays more like an INDIE game IMO, ie. produced by an independent developer w/o huge financial backing, and as such, the developer has great promise!
It has good graphics, easy on the ears SFX, an interesting storyline and challenging, diversified puzzles that are unique, all making this game worth the purchase price in itself.
If you enjoy more of an adventure mix to your H0 gameplay and yearn for something outside of the proverbial 'box' I'm pretty certain you will enjoy this game as much as I did.
In terms of gaming, Curse at Twilight: Thief of Souls is the BEST OF ALL WORLDS in one game. This enchanted journey will lead you into many challenges via various levels of adventure, H0G and a FRAG-type hybrid puzzles, multiple additional minigames and a great storyline that all combine to keep you totally emersed.
There is a slight learning curve in the beginning, ... yet once you get underway, the storyline will envelope you and won't let you go. The graphics are wonderful (albeit a few screens being on a bit of a small scale for my likes), and overall original and unique with appropriately atmospheric SFX as well.
So, if you like and enjoy many genres and a blend of good puzzles with imaginative storylines laced with fantasy, chills, mystery, romance, puzzles and fairytales, this game has a bit of it all. Once you get underway, you won't want it to end..... HOPE THERE WILL BE MORE!!!!!
Loved this game; it was visually gorgeous (though graphics in H0G and FRAG a bit tiny unless set to 800x600 dpi) on my widescreen. The storyline was princess/fairytale theme... perfect for the romantic at heart and a wonderful change from the dark/dismal settings even for those not.
Definitely worth the purchase even at full price!!
Yummy Drink Factory is a unique, challenging and just plain FUN time management game that requires quick action and memory skills or at least a willingness to buff up on the two! Be forwarned, just like sugar and caffeine, it is HIGHLY ADDICTIVE... 'cuase once you start playing it is difficult to stop! :# It would be even better if the graphics were a bit more sophisticated #ie. firsst person close up), but don't let this little charmer get by.... at the very least, trial it and see for yourself.
Dreamland is a fun adventure H0G with lots to do, interesting, theme-park oriented locations with an integrated connecting plot. Also to it's benefit, the graphics were great and provided overall good SFX (the only voice over, the game's antagonist, was a bit on the overdone side tho, IMO, lol). A true spooky/scary factor theme ran throughout, yet, without overt occult which was an excellent plus. A slight learning curve in the beginning makes up for in the end as it offers more challenging and diverse gameplay. I enjoyed it once I got under way and became more immersed in the multi-level goals, for which there are awards for in the end.
Visually, sound-wise, and the way the mini games were incorporated into gameplay were excellent, yet it is not necessary for developers to bombard the overt evil at us. Developers would be wise to serve gamers spooky and chills without going overboard with the overt dark themes. There have been other games recently that were similar and better (ie. more frightening) simply because of the subtlety. ...mid to 3/4 of the way through, playing this actually got to be depressing and a chore.
I usually steer clear of this type of game... and in all honesty my initial impression based on the description and cover art, I perceived it would be another hokey and probably run of the mill thriller.
Man, was I wrong! This is A FANTASTIC GAME... I would say on the very top of the spooky game list. H0G with a strong adventure feel to it.
A MUST PLAY!!!!
The graphics, sound track, challenge, originality, length, EVERYTHING was TOP NOTCH in this game.... I strongly recommend anyone that wants a little chill and thrill some dark stormy night, turn off the lights and check this one out.
It's the only game where I actually jumped... not just once but twice while playing.
