I have always enjoyed the MCF games and this one is not really any different. The puzzles are awesome! There are multiple puzzles that have multiple parts to them before getting the "reward". Those are my absolute favorite. Some are very easy and some will likely have you heading to the Guide for a little help (guilty!!).
It is a bit dark but that seems to be the MCF way. If you want bright lights and unicorns, this game is not going to be for you.
My only issue is that I think the storyline got confusing and especially the end. I might actually play it again just to see what it was all about.
This is an awful game! I only played the demo but I would not recommend this game to anyone. Someone wrote that the game gets better after the first chapter. Didn't anyone tell the developers that first impressions are everything? I just cannot see paying for a game that can't grab my attention from the get-go.
The storyline seems interesting but there's no way I would be able to get very far into the game to see how it progresses. This is the only reason to give this game more than one star.
Please play the demo, or use a free game code if you are really adventurous.
This game has a lot of high and a lot of low ratings. Honestly, I can't figure out the low ratings unless your idea of playing a game is to have ONLY good music and characters. That's not me. I want to play the game so I want puzzles and HOPs.
The storyline is not bad. The intro tells you exactly what is going on which is something I appreciate. Oftentimes, you get to the end of a game and have no clue what has been happening only to have the developer spend several minutes explaining everything to you. Why did I have to wait until the end to know what was going on? This is not like that. I thought the story progressed from the beginning to the end.
The games were quite good. The puzzles were a mixed bag with some being extremely easy and one or two taking a bit of time to figure out (I had a bit of trouble with the constellation one). Similarly, some of the HOPs were really easy with the objects being in plain view. Other times, you had to move objects around to find things and/or use objects to find others.
You had the option to see areas where you were to look for a collectible. I liked that! Too many times you play a game and never know if there is a collectible in the scene and spend too much time looking for something that is not there.
I have played several of the House of 1000 Doors and enjoyed them all...until this one.
I am not even sure where to start....
First of all, it has a bug when I try to run it. There is a flickering in the text bar that will go away if I continue to click on it (about 5 times). This is not only my problem as it shows up on multiple blogs.
And then there is the main character. Others have said this but her voice was one of the worst character voices ever. Apparently the developer couldn't get a real person to read the script so used a computer voice (think the computer in War Games - shall we play a game?). It was that bad. I turned off the sound but then had to rely on the flickering text. So much for having a relaxing time playing a game.
The hand of light? You cannot be serious. Who thought it would be a great idea to get rid of an infected object by using your mouse to trace a few lines? ALL OF THE TIME!!! Not just once or twice, mind you. It was every scene. And there was no skill. Just time consuming mouse movement.
I stopped playing after about 15 minutes as I could no longer take the flickering and tracing. If you don't get the flickering and can stand tracing a few lines then this might be your game. PLEASE play the demo. I could save you some $ not to mention time. I wish I had.
I have played the game through to the end and have enjoyed others in this series. Sure, it's not really darkness as some have objected to, but the point is not to have a dark and dreary game. The story is a good one. If the only reason you play a GAME is to have a George Lucas style story, then you probably won't like much from BFG. I typically look forward to the puzzles so the fact that I wrote that the story was good should say something. There are interesting HOP's (shadow, find the object, use the object, etc) and the puzzles are diverse with some very basic ones and some that will challenge you for more than a few minutes. There is a great map. There are no silly bunnies or dogs that you need to have help you out. There are very few instances where you need to go too terribly far from your current location to use an item or collect one. The areas are not so convoluted that the map is the only way to move around. It makes sense. The first part, which would probably be in the demo, is not that far off from what the rest of the game is going to be like so give the demo a shot. Happy gaming.
I'd give this a big thumbs up. This is another game in the Lost Lands games (I've played them all and liked them all) and think it's one of the better ones.
There are some puzzles that will take a LONG time and some that are not as difficult. This is not the run of the mill HOP. I'd say it leans toward a puzzle game with HOPs (if that helps).
There is a great map that you will need to use since there are a couple of times where you absolutely need it.
The strategy guide is not as helpful as I'd like to see as they don't explain a lot of the puzzles. One of the guys that has videos on YouTube just skipped one or two of the puzzles because he couldn't figure them out. Not helpful! But another video is out there showing the solution. Keep looking because you might need it.
This review is based on the full game... I bought this because I had played NY Mysteries in the past AND this one had such good reviews. BUT, seriously?? Every time a new room opened I literally cringed. You could not just play an area and move to the next. No, you had to start in one area, go back to the previous area, or even the one before that, in order to get something and then travel back to the one you were in originally. Are you confused? Right? It was so confusingly intertwined that by the end I had to use the map just to get to a location. Otherwise all you would be doing is moving from place to place for more than 50% of the game time.
The puzzles are essentially non-existent so if you are looking for a puzzle and hidden object game, this isn't it.
I don't recommend this game.

I was looking forward to this since there were so many rave reviews. Sorry, but I cant join in with them as I thought this was just a "meh" kind of game. I played the demo (as I almost always do) to try to get a feel for it. It took 20 minutes. They give you 90 minutes to play the demo. Let me repeat this. It took 20 minutes. I don't think I've EVER played a demo in 20 minutes. The worst thing was that in those 20 minutes, it was probably 10 minutes of the characters "talking". And I didn't see where to add the player name nor change the level of difficulty so I spent those 10 minutes not being able to skip the chatting, looking at sparkles (do not like those) and seeing lame hints. My apologies if this is your thing but I can't get this one :-(

OK so I bought this after playing the demo for 15 minutes. This is not your everyday HOP game so don't go there if that's what you are looking for. This is a bona fide puzzle game.
Yes there is a help. Go back to the main screen and click on EXTRAS and then the CHEATER'S COMPENDIUM. This has all of the help you'll ever need.
Here's a clue to get you past the front gate - Abracadabra!!! If you've gotten that far, I was a little confused at the staircase as I didn't realize there were hallways off the top floor and only stumbled on it by accident. So move your cursor around and you'll get there.
Read the low ratings. They are all from people who couldn't find help or didn't know how to get past the gate. Everyone else loves the game. Now that you know where the help is, you should love it too.
