Everyone is frightened by the sights and sounds of something large stumbling through the darkness. Can you solve the mystery before the monster adds another chapter to this legend?
This was my 23rd Nancy Drew game, and it is, to my way of thinking, one of the very best!
All of the dark, lurking, monstrous, hideous things, found in other Drew mysteries, were present throughout this extraordinary game which took place, for the most part, in a German castle -- Castle Finster -- and Nancy had her hands full of suspects, secret passages, dungeons, codes, mystery inventory, and a bevvy of suspects. The puzzles were very challenging, and even frustrating, on occasion #the forest!#, but the game truly delivered! It was fantastic from beginning to end, and I'll include it in my top 5 all-time Nancy Drew best games! BRAVO, HER INTERACTIVE! BRAVO, BIG FISH GAMES!.
Nancy Drew "Out West!" That is the setting -- the Arizona setting -- for this 10th game in the Drew Series, and my own 22nd Drew game traversal.
The game is good, but the reason for my four-star rating instead of my usual five-star rating for these games is because of a certain lack of forboding such as was seen in "The Curse of Blackmoor Manor," which immediately followed this game, and other Drew games such as "The Haunting of Castle Malloy."
Also, the constant twanging of Country-Western guitar music added nothing to the atmosphere.
Nevertheless, the game had an excellent plot, and the identity of the culprit behind all of the cunning and deception, revealed at the very end, didn't surprise me. because I thought this person was kind of "sleazy," anyway.
FANFOREVER had it right when she said, in her review, that she likes hidden object games, but that sometimes the developers "go overboard" with these HOGS and obscure the game.
She's partially correct. So, so many HOGS RUIN the game. Here was a beautifully created game with a very good plot, and MARIAGLORUM, a Russian studio, ruined it with HOG after HOG after HOG.
I can't emphasize enough, for the sake of any game developer that might read this review, that YOU MUST CUT DOWN ON THE HOGS and concentrate more on the PLOT! PLEASE, PLEASE DO THIS FOR US GAMERS!
Even the HOG fans find this kind of game a bit much to take!
Atlantis Evolution, the "brain child" of Adventure Games, is one of the strangest, yet most brilliiant games I have ever had the fortune to download from BIG FISH!
It has everything: fantasy, exceptional computer-generated graphics, great length, engrossing storyline, with Good always struggling against Evil, throughout, and a level of challenge that's in a class of its own. This is a very difficult game to get through from the "get-go."
I can't say enough about this cerebral, yet just-plain-fun game that the Adventure Company has come up with.
Just a word of encouragement: HANG IN THERE when being chased by the Guardians. You WILL, finally, escape! Be patient in the vast and winding jungle. You WILL find the items you need. Be careful during the "Loch Ness Monster" puzzle. There IS a way out if you only look to your right. Be patient when doing battle with the Gods at the Reorientation Center. You WILL finally prevail! Be wary when approaching the guardians a little later. You CAN get past them.
And then, suddenly, you enter a beautiful, ethereal, "fairie world" that is more beautiful than anything I've ever seen in any other game. And the ending is unequalled! It's well thought out and is quite surprising!
You'll love this game as much as I do IF YOU ONLY PERSEVERE!
Well done, ADVENTURE GAMES, and "Thank you, BIG FISH GAMES, for offering this fine product."
I don't like HOGS, but I HAVE PLAYED some pretty good ones, and this game is not one of them. It is a TRAIN WRECK of never-ending and very tiring HOGS, one after another after another after another, never seeming to end!
The graphics were good and the voices were clear, but the acting, using only the voices, was EXTREMELY SLOW and very, very, amateurish! This was one of the worst HOGS I have ever played.
There was hardly a plot, and the ending "just happened out of nowhere," adding to the inanity of this surpassingly stupid game.
There was constant back-tracking throughout the game, making it tedious to the extreme. One would have to wonder what the developers of this "game" had in mind, if anything!
I'll take the LARGE FILE games that feature PLOT, which was so obviously missing from this game.
You move to England and you take your daughter, Hannah, to a rural school that is dark and dilapidated. Suddenly, she is whisked away by a wicked witch that hides in a secret lair within the school, which is overrun by giant, ferocious plants. You must find your daughter before it is too late!
Real people are used on occasion during the game, which sports marvelous graphics, great voices, and more locales than I can even recall! At every turn, it seems that a new secret place is found, and just when you think you've found all of the game locations, another one pops up!
And there are no HOGS, as such! All of the hidden items you need are strictly part of the game (No baseballs, pears, bananas, and necklaces in a big bin!).
This was a top-notch game with fairly easy puzzles, and can easily be done without a walkthrough.
Even though this game was a HOG, I thought it was good enough to play. No. It was not heart-pounding like the large format masterpieces such as "Art of Murder: Cards of Destiny," or "Agon: From London to Madagascar," or "Mystery Chronicles: The Tree of Life," or "Syberia" and "Syberia II," but it held its own as a 'lowly HOG.'
I did not care for the ending, but one cannot have everything.
Now, if BIG FISH could only find about 50 more large format games somewhere.......
This fourth installment in the "Art of Murder" Series, a series which is almost a total masterpiece, is in no way like the other three.
If you like hidden object games that are timed, with many objects almost completely hidden, or shrouded in darkness, then you'll like this very short game.
Actually, the storyline is very good, and the game could have ended up in just as exciting a way as the other three, but City Interactive decided otherwise, and hence, we have a "lesser god" to work with.
I sincerely hope that City Interactive continues the series with Nicole Bonnet actually talking, as there are no voice-overs in this game, and Nicole is only seen at the very end of the game. The rest of the time, just a small icon of her head can be seen as she interacts with the various characters of the story
This installment had its good moments, some interesting puzzles, and some good graphics. Other than that, there is not much you can say for this game..
Thanks once again to City Interactive and to its CEO, Marek Tyminski, for bringing us another masterwork, "FBI Confidential."
The heroine, Nicole Bonnet, finds herself once again immersed in a series of ritual killings that are not for the faint of heart! All are connected, and take Nicole from New York City to the jungles of Peru, in search of the perpetrator.
The game is totally linear, which is the format I prefer, and the graphics are beautifully stunning. The storyline is right on target, and the voice-overs are top-notch.
Just a small note: Gina Tuosto was the voice of Nicole Bonnet.
I can't recommend this game enough! It was a wild ride from beginning to end!
My thanks to Robert Ozog, the Leader and Story Director, and City Interactive, for coming up with yet another thriller a la "The Art of Murder: Cards of Destiny."
The story once again has Nicole jumping all over the map, from Paris to Marseilles, and from Spain to Cuba, and back again to Marseilles. She is on the trail of another brutal serial killer, but is impeded by a French police inspector and a variety of thugs.
She goes through constant life-threatening situations and runs several "death gauntlets." These are timed sequences, featuring climbing dangerous walls, outrunning attack dogs, and climbing out on high ledges.
The slider puzzle, which needs to be solved to get into a secret room was a real agony to solve, and it took me about an hour to crack it!
If you loved "Cards of Destiny," then you'll LUV "Hunt for the Puppeteer!"
