No question, this baby is a toughie! Some of the segments required many, many tries to master or even to just get lucky on, but to me it is the epitome of a first rate marble popper.
If you are person who just gets frustrated and quits when the going gets tough, this is not the game for you, but if you can walk away for a while then come back more determined than ever, Sparkle will entertain you forever.
Contrary to some reviews, Sparkle can be beaten. I am an intermediate player and made it all the way through, albiet with some coaching from the good people in the Big Fish Forums, so I know an intermediate player can do it. It is challenging, it can be downright tough, but that is what makes it fun. Not for the faint of heart, this one is the best of the marble poppers. If I have a complaint, it's that it has caused me to be disappointed in the others.
While there was a wide selection of games and some very easy HOS's, I really didn't care for the comic book format. The game was not challenging to me and the story did not flow smoothly and did not pique my interest. I finally just got bored and stopped. It seems more like it was written for a young teen than for an adult.
Since we don't all have the same taste, I would recommend trying the free hour before buying this one.
I read a lot of criticism of this Jewel Quest story, but I have a different take. First, the graphics were great, but what I really enjoyed was another chapter in the lives of Emma and Rupert. I was very encouraged to see that the authors have no qualms about jumping around in time, from the future shown in Sapphire Dragon to this one, early in Rupert and Emma's relationship.
It was nice to have a new Jewel Board twist or two and some of the puzzles were either challenging or frustrating, your choice, but overall I enjoyed the game and would buy it again. My only real complaint is that it was rather short. I finished it in a day that had a lot of distractions. This game does not live up to the Sapphire Dragon, but I still recommend it to all my fellow Jewel Quest addicts.
Some may like this game as the story seemed to be interesting but I have to tell you, it bored me to death. While I like the occasional HOS in the course of the story, this one gives you no more than a very brief breather between them then gives you the next scene in the story rather than let you move through the story as a participant.
As I said, some may like it, especially if they like many, many hidden object scenes, but it is not my cup of tea. Can't finish it!
Since Jewel Quest: The Sapphire Dragon currenty holds the position of my favorite game, I thought I should write a review and explain why.
Unlike any other Jewel Quest versions, The Sapphire Dragon has multiple characters, each with a different perspective and an advantage that is useful on varying Jewel Boards. I like being able to switch from character to character, matching the best special trait with each jewel board, but most of all, I like reading each character's diary and seeing the story develop as well as learning more Pack family history. If it were possible to rate the storyline six on a scale of five, I would have done so. Adding to the fun are some interesting and challenging Jewel Boards.
All in all, I have played this one twice and will play it again, something that is unusual for me.
Other than titles, I see no resemblance at all to Luxor, but I like it! It moves so fast, I am not sure what is happening most of the time, but there are many satisfying explosions accompanied by great bursts of color. I don't think of it as Luxor and continue to love Egyptian themed Luxor, but this is just plain fun, a different animal to be sure, but fun and should not really be compared to traditional Luxor, but enjoyed as a free standing entity.
I was introduced to the Jewel Quest series by a friend and started with Seventh Gate. I played all the newer ones and loved them but avoided the first two because I thought they would probably be clunky and not live up to my expectations.
Wrong!! While the original Jewel Quest is pre-Pack family and the graphics are not as nice, the Jewel Boards are VERY challenging. Since there is no lateral move into an empty space, I would go so far as to say that some of the boards are more difficult than recent ones. You aren't going to whip through this is a couple of hours and be looking for something to do again. Plan on days (assuming a few hours a day, not 12). It's fun, it's challenging and you more than get your money's worth.
